playing video files with french accented characters in title...

Hi everybody,

I've been using gbpvr for a few months now and this is really a great software !!! Recently, (since I installed v92.11), recording programs with zap2it titles in french with "é" or "à" characters makes it impossible to play them back on mediamvp.

The hauppauge software plays them back ok... The pc plays them back ok but not media mvp.

What is fun is that I had an old file recorded in april (but I don't know exactly with wich version v9107 or 9105 ?) with french characters in title and this one plays ok with current release so it seems to be happening from recording time (mpeg file header ?).

Just renaming the file in windows explorer without any french characters makes it readable again by mediamvp.

This is just a bit annoying because renaming the filename created by zap2it guide removes it from the database etc...

I can't help with the playback, but I can help with the rename.

For a quick explanation, find the show in the database in the PROGRAMME table, type in what you want in the sub_title column, then run rename recordings. It will rename the file based on the sub_title field. You can even edit the field befor the show records, so when it finally does, it will already be good to go.

thanks for your reply; this gives me a little more understanding about the format of the database...

But I'd like to know if Sub can take a look and see what has changed about naming at record time or if we could just rename it at scheduling time or even remove all special characters from programme table...

any idea is welcome,

(PS I am not programmer so I just hope my recommendations are not too silly !!!)

for example, Desperate wives in french is "Beautés Désespérées.mpg" (this is available from zap2it, videotron illico numerique in quebec canada).

trying to play on mvp that recorded file reboots mvp.

only renaming the file with windows explorer to beautes desesperees.mpg makes it readable but i lose it from database and have to play it with videos plugin

this was not happening with older versions of gbpvr and even older recorded files with accented characters are playable with new gbpvr so that is what makes me think this is happening at record time ???

hauppauge current software is able to play it also

if you want, i can email you a small mpg file that does it

my card is hauppauge pvr-250 running on xp pro french, gbpvr is latest release, it was doing it also with v9211 but i think not doing it with v9105-9107

any idea of what has changed ?

I expecting it would fail for me also, but I just renamed one of my videos tos 'Beautés Désespérées.mpg' and it played fine with my MVP.

What error do you get in your gbpvr.exe.log when you try?

Sorry, I dont know. I've just changed one of my recordings to point to a file I've renamed "Beautés Désespérées.mpg" and it seems to play ok from the MVP recordings screen.

Are you able to set your logging level back to debug and produce a more complete log? The one above was set to error, so is missing much of the useful info.
