Yikes Sad

When I have both MVPMedia and MVPMediaSvc disabled and stopped,
(1) > 5 min to "connect to servers"
(2) black/blank screen when starting playback of tv recordings

When I have just MVPMediaSvc enabled and running,
(1) no black/blank screen - playback starts OK
(2) I can fast fwd OK
(3) But I can't skip 3 minutes forward - when I do this, the screen goes black/blank.

My setup:
(1) the latest beta version of MVP installed
(2) gbpvr 09310 installed

Have I missed something in my set up?

BTW, my network setup is :
(1) Router (plus DSL modem combo)
It also has DHCP service enabled
IP 192.168.1.1
Allocates IP in the range 192.168.100 t0 104 (so max 5 users)

(2) PC
Running 09310 GBPVR - configured to autostart 1 MVP server
Cat5 cable to router

(3) MVP
Running latest beta install
Cat5 cable to router

I think the MVP is finding the DHCP service and starting fine.
BUT it gets stuck on "Contacting servers"... presumably the GBPVR service...
Sometimes, it takes >5 mins to get to the GBPVR main menu...
once in a while, it just fails to find the GBPVR server or UI server...

Maybe I need to configure the router to be a Domain Name Server? (tho i'm not sure if my router can do that...)

Any ideas?

Hi Venger,

Just to let you know you're not alone. I have the same problems (and can't get them resolved).

I've had XP turn the firewall back on without me knowing it a few times - just a thought.

Also I wonder if it would work if you connected with a crossover cable? the thing is you would have to set the PC up as a dhcp server.

on second thought, for testing purposes, you could bring the MVP up and let it get an IP address from the router, then unplug the lan cable and put a crossover between the PC and the MVP.
It would be interesting to see if it mad any difference

I have my PC setup with a DHPC-server (since I don't have a router) so i'll make the test with a crossover cable this afternoon (GMT+1). Strange thing is that when MVPMediaSvc is running, all works fine (except skip fw etc)

Once you've booted your MVP using MVPMediaSVC, do you stop the service, or leave it running?

I leave MVPMediaSvc running, since otherwise I have to remember to start the MVPMediaSvc server everytime I power on the MVP and stop it afterwards. However, it is worthwile a test ...

Did the promised tests
1) Crosscable between MVP and PC. MVPMediaSvc disabled. DHCP server on PC.
-> MVP gets IP-address;
-> dongle.bin is pushed by GBPVR;
-> again 3 minutes 10 seconds delay between loading dongle.bin and GBPVR main screen;
-> black screen when playing back a previously recorded file

2) Crosscable between MVP and PC. MVPMediaSvc enabled.
-> MVP gets IP-address;
-> dongle.bin is pushed by MVPMediaSvc;
-> 2 seconds delay between loading dongle.bin and GBPVR main screen;
-> MVPMediaSvc service stopped;
-> playing back a previously recorded file works OK;
-> black screen when pressing skip forward during playback

So, the network components are not the disturbing factor....
