Could someone explain how the FF/RW functionality is SUPPOSED to work please? I'm trying to understand how to pose my next question if in fact it's a bug compared to how it's actually working on my machine.
Right now, when i hit the FF button, it doesn't really do much of anything but pause a split second, then continue with no audio (discovered that gb-pvr auto sets the WAVE volume to 0 by itself, every time, and have to manually bring up volume and click the level back up again), it doesn't skip back at all, no matter how many times i hit the button after each other. And "Software MPEG-2 Playback", changing any choice filters doesn't seem to impact at all of this happening.
Now, when i use the "Use short skip instead of FF/RW", it still accomplishes what i need it to do, just not the same that a video player NORMALLY does it. So it's not a real big deal, but i would like to know if FF/RW is supposed to actually work, or do anything when in Timshift mode, or is it more for useage when playing back a video? If not, this is a bug with my setup. Using WinXP,PVR-250,Audigy2 card. All latest drivers using.

Thanx.

Yeah, FF/RW is a bit crap. Its very dependent on other components. Most video decoders will play forward at 2x, but no faster without specific implementations for each decoder. Sounds like you may be using one that one that wont play faster than 1x. Very few decoders will play backwards, and those that do require specific implementations for those decoders.

Also a factor is what sound device you have in your machine. These are usually responsible for keeping time in Directshow. The default directsound device will usually only go as high as 2x.

In summary, stick with short skip...

Just thought I'd share my experiences with several decoders that worked nicely for 2x and 4x FFWD playback:
  1. InterVideo - the original one installed by the Hauppauge SW.
It works nicely (for me) for FFWD playback, at 2x and 4x.
  2. nVidia PureVideo MPEG Decoder
I installed the trial version, which seems to work just as nice as the InterVideo.
  3. Nero Video Decoder
The decoder that comes with NeroVision. It appears to play back quite well too, except that at 2x it's a bit jumpy. At 4x it looks smooth.
The InterVideo never worked for backward playback. I don't think I bothered trying the others. If it's important to you - I'll check it out.

Regardless, I'm with Sub on the "skip" thing. Stick with skip. I use 60 seconds forward skip and 20 second backward. More than 20 seconds backwards I find is too much if I just want to catch something I missed. And the 3:1 ratio seems good for me.

Naw, it's no big deal to use FF/RW. I'm cool with the 'skip' thing. I use 30 seconds which is just fine for usage.
I appreciate the explainations as well of it's workings, or not good workings i guess should i say. Thats the explaination i was looking for. Just wanted to know that GBPVR wasn't the cause, and other understandable reasons to what is causing it to behave this way. Thanx again to both of you.
