Hi,

I just tried to set up a pvr, and I ran into some really crappy performance (video unwatchable due to skipping/stuttering). Now, I want to fix it as cheaply as possible, so I was hoping someone here could help me with choosing the best course of action.

My current stats are:

Athlon 1Ghz
512MB Memory PC100
Diamond Viper V550 (TNT1) 16MB
SoundBlaster Live!
Windows XP

[EDIT]: Also:
Hauppauge PVR 150

One thing that might be a huge problem is that I am using the default driver for the TNT video card (apparently there is no windows 2k/xp driver for the TNT anymore). Sadly, I don't know if this will affect the MPEG decoding. My guess is yes.

Anyway, what should I upgrade to fix my problem? Is this box just totally insufficient or what?

Thanks,
Miles Teg

Try recording (but not watching) something. Watch the resutling file on another system. If it looks fine, then it's probably the video card issue, something you have wrong in the GB settings (if that's the case, the recording should look find on the same machine using media player), or your mpeg decoders. If tv looks fine using winTV, then it's probably settings.

Hiya,

You might also want to to browse the Sticky Thread

"Disappointing MPEG2 decoding"

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5600

( For the quartz dll Swap see: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/FAQ )

Setting Live Preview to "Encoder Pass through" normally works for LiveTV problems.

Other than that try various MPEG2 Codecs, to see which works best for you.
