i have a pvr 500 right now. I plan to add a 350 in soon. would all video playback be decoded by the 350? or do i have to have the cards listed in a certain order?

yes, all MPEG2 video will be decoded by the PVR350. No, it doesnt matter what order the PVR350 is in the list, but you do need to set you capture sourcese for the correct card type. Adding a new card does not necessarily mean its added to the end - sometimes you need to adjust the device #'s.

is there anything to check and make sure its working? lol

Its hard to tell. It may insert itself as device #1, pushing the PVR500 out to device #2 and device #3

im guessing all i would have to do is use that "use 350 for decoding" option, huh? haha - didnt see that earlier. i mean that , along with setting the cards up right.

also another question: i replied to another thread that involved the sound from a 350. do you have to use the sound out from the card or can you use the sound card for output like i have with my 500? i was just planning to use the sound card for all sound out and didnt think i would have to do anything with the sound from the 350 (like loop it back into the sound card)

i am using tv out via my video card btw...

Yes, you do have to use the PVR350's sound if you want to use the PVR350's TV out (and hardware decoder).

If you're using the tv out via your video card, then you're not using the PVR350's tv out, so my above comment doesnt apply. If you're not using the PVR350's tv out (or it's hardware decoder) then you're free to use any soundcard.

can everything be displayed thru the 350 tv out? like the windows desktop? i dont think it can right?

if not, is there anyway for gb-pvr to play quicktime .mov files?

if not that, i will just get a 150 and look for some video cards that have hardware mpeg2 decoders - i would still get the remote and I would still get the hardware decoder

EDIT: was just searcing forums and saw that gbpvr wont use the hardware decoding of the video card? nevermind then lol. hardware decoding not a real necessity, just was a plus

No, the PVR350's TV can only be used for viewing MPEG1/2 video. GB-PVR uses some tricks to make the menus etc appear on the screen, but you cant get the desktop or other apps to appear.

Videocards dont implement a full hardware decoder like you find in a PVR350, but rather a set of instructions that can be used to accellerate the decoding process.

Video cards drivers tend to expose their hardware decoder accelleration features via dxva. These features can be used by GB-PVR if the software decoder you're using supports it.

and with the hauppauge remote with the pvr 150 - does it use the irc blaster for the reciever or do i need an external reciever?

i am just looking for full funtionality of the remote. i guess i could still use my usb uirt and just have it learn all the buttons from the hauppauge remote and im assuming it uses the same buttons from the hauppauge remote? i dont know if you will understand wat i mean..

like i cant really get use of the green, yellow, blue, etc (i think there is more) buttons on my harmony remote w/ usb-uirt right now. if i use the hauppauge remote with the usb-uirt (if i have to) i will have the functionality from those buttons...?
