Tipster,
I just loaded XMedia DX Rev 29. Kudos for your improvements and thanks for all your continuing hard work. Also, thanks for the automated installer.
I donât use that many plugins, but I want to report a couple of bugs, and give you some general feedback. (In case itâs relevant, everything I do is via the MVP with its remote.)
XSearch
The âbutton glossaryâ (where you show what the colored buttons do) is missing. E.g., Blue toggles keyboard/list, Yellow changes the list-type.
XRecordings
Here the âbutton glossaryâ is on the bottom, whereas in XGuide itâs on the top. I think it would be better to standardize the location so the non-tech (impatient wife) would always know immediately where to find what special buttons work.
The twisted/fluid/swirly-effect green buttonâ makes text almost impossible to read. For example, from Ready, go right , click OK, and highlight a recorded episode. The yellow text is very hard to see because of the light/yellowish highlighting of the green button. IMHO, this twisted/fluid/swirly effect on the buttons isnât a good idea in general.
If you now click OK on an episode, it pops up a window with options of what to do with the recording. I donât understand the logic of having the window divided as it is, with the top fourth darker blue and the rest a medium blue. Unfortunately, the episode description runs from the top/dark portion into the bottom/lighter portion, so it makes it look as if itâs an accident.
Also, this window is translucent, as are several others. So the Button glossary at the bottom shows through the pop-up windows, even though the buttons donât work in the pop-up window. I think youâd be better making most of the pop-up windows opaque.
One way to make pop-up windows more distinct would be to have a more distinctive border on them.
Bug: If on an individual episode, I press the âRenameâ button, the system aborts with the error: âThe given pathâs format is not supportedâ
The âFreespaceâ window has a divided-up pop-up window, as described above, with similar issues.
Same with the âManualâ window.
The âWatchedâ window highlights the recording title with a highlighted blue square. This is inconsistent with the green buttons appearing in every other place. HOWEVER, notice that the text in this blue button is FAR more readable than text in those twisted/fluid/swirly green buttons; thereâs a lesson here.
Music Player
In Icon mode, text to the right of the big album cover (artist, and track count) is too small, I find.
Similar to above, the twisted/fluid/swirly green buttons highlighting the list of albums make the text harder to read than it could be.
If you highlight an album which has an album cover, each of the tracks are also displayed with a smaller version of the same album cover. IMHO, this is unnecessary/redundant and makes it look overly cluttered.
May I suggest another layout to this icon view of an album: Display the album cover as it is, then display the tracks in a vertical list to the right of the album cover, and move the artist and album title to below the album cover. I think it would look cleaner. ( I also donât think it would be a loss if the album cover were made just a bit smaller, which would also make more room for text.)
In List view, rather than Icon view, I think you could afford to make all the text larger.
FM Radio
Bug: pressing the âAddâ button causes: â.\skin\XMEDIA\fm radio\...\images\popup_dialog2.pngâ
Bug: Same error when I hit the âEditâ button
Theater
Start from By Theater, and select a movie, which brings up a window containing the description. This window has all the same issues as cited above under XRecordings. The translucency at the top is particularly bothersome where the underlying âtheatersâ shows through the swirly green âReviewâ button. Hit the Review button and the problem is even worse. The first line of the review text collides with the âmovies now playingâ on the top of the window, and the text in this translucent window is atop the base Theaters window. Itâs a jumble.
Weather
You show the Down and Up buttons at the bottom right of the screen, showing that those buttons are effective. However, you also show the left and right buttons at the bottom left, even though they seem to do nothing on this plugin.
Tipster, I hope the feedback and suggestions are helpful. Again, so many thanks for all the effort you put into this product.
