Just doing some browsing and I always thought npvr used the output txt file of comskip for the commercials, but then I found a thread that said it used the edl. Which one is it?
I'm trying to create my own scraper that reads from the scheduled_recordings table and then tries to map each record to an entry from thetvdb.com or themoviedb.org
I've got a few questions that I'm hoping some people can weigh in on with advice or past experience.
1. Both thetvdb and themoviedb say you shouldn't call their services too frequently. What's the best strategy for caching the data and then periodically updating it? Is it just a matter of downloading the data and remembering the date that you downloaded it, and then the next time the data is requested you compare the downloaded date vs the current date, and if a certain amount of time has elapsed then re-download it?
thetvdb also has a url that you can call, pass in a timestamp, and it will give you back a list of items that have changed since the last time you called the url, but I'm wondering if this actually causes more downloading activity than the strategy discussed above. also i didn't see a similar option for themoviedb and if possible i'd like the code/strategy to be consistent between the two.
2. Specifically for thetvdb, what's the best strategy for matching the series. for tvdb you actually have to make multiple calls to their service, once to search for the series, and then potentially multiple times to download each series that is returned in the search results. is it best to just download all the series first and then scan them all for the best matching episode. or do you always try to narrow it down to a specific series first and only download that specific series rather than the full list returned in the search results. if the 2nd option is taken, is there a reliable way to match the series... many times the series name doesn't match up exactly with the title recorded by npvr/guide data. there's a zap2it id that can be more reliable but it's not always populated in tvdb. there's a first aired date but I'm not sure how reliable that is... etc.
I have been using a old MVP for ages and figure its time to upgrade and do away with the MVP. I don't understand how the nextpvr works or what way would be the best to use, do I buy a popcorn hr and use that for my remote control or do I use just the computer with the nextpvr software . I also want to add another tuner to be able to record 4 TV shows at 1 time and I am not sure what way to go on that, would a usb tuner work ok or should I just buy a internal card . Thx for the help with this its been so long since I had to do anything to my system I have lost 95 % of my knowledge on this matter
I just installed NextPVR on my win7 machine as a server , i want my client (winxp) , to be able to play file i have from the server ( film, music etc).
I have done all the step to configure my client , but i cannot see the file i have share on the setting of my server, i can only see the client default share,
i have make a rule for NRecord.exe to accept connection on the server , but that change noting yet.
I built a new machine based on a Gigabyte Brix (A8). And was trying to move across from my virtualised machine.
I tried importing one of the xml files that are gnerated after a recording finishes. They seem to be a different format from the backed up ones Missing the event details.
I plan on writing a little batch script that runs minutes before primetime that makes sure everything is set to record, or maybe one already exists?.
I thought of checking to see if nrecord.exe and ndigitalhost.exe are running, if not, execute NPVRServiceControl.exe. This would work ok but it always opens ntray, is there a way to do it without opening ntray?
Can't execute ndigitalhost and nrecord by themselves and there's no help for any of the exe's.
I have Windows 8 and have no TV listings. I have TV guide and TV recording checked. I downloaded a TVsettings.zip file which says you are supposed to add extracted files to NPVR data folder. Can't find data folder? How do you configure TV listings...don't I have to input zip or tv provider??
I currently use MP but I am considering using NEXT PVR instead. The thing that is appealing is the support for MB3 as a front end but I was wondering what else is better/ worse? For instance I cant seem to find if there is any Iplayer/4od plug ins? I also like the recording scheduler in MP how is it in NPVR?
My current set up is dvb-s2 dual tuners, radio times EPG and I have a client pc and a NOWTV box as well as an Xbox 360 (which is probably irelavent!)
A couple of nrecord.log logs attached. I'm guessing that something is killing off the web server in npvr ??? a stop/start of the npvr service does no help. The only way out seems to be a reboot of the server. (The tablet ndroid still seems to be working)
