I've been all through the forums and they are starting to make my eyes bleed while searching for a simple overview answer. So I'll pose the question here and hopefully get some really basic guidance my thick head can understand.
I've had a GBPVR box using two HVR-1600's for a couple years now without issues. I've recorded in analog all this time because Comcast was dishing out the analog signal OK. It was simple to set up and has been running without difficulty for all this time. I've kept up with GBPVR upgrades and am on version 1.4.7.
Today I got the announcement that I need a 'Digital Adapter' to continue using my analog 'TV' after May 12th. Since I use my PVR as my recording device and I still want to watch all 66+ channels, I need some advice.
What do I need to do to get the 'Digital Adapter' to change channels on the fly so I can continue to record my shows normally? I don't care about Hi Def right now (although it would be nice) and I stream everything out of my PVR to my PCH A-100.
I ordered two of the 'free' digital adapters. I went round and round with Comcast asking for an answer to my quandary without alluding to it being a GB-PVR box and not a standard Analog TV I just wanted to keep my remote working with. No help as you would expect.
On top of it all, I recently upgraded from a Media MVP to the PCH A-100 and am dealing with separate issues getting GBPVR to run with mvpmcx2. Every time I fire up the PCH with GBPVR recording service enabled, the PCH does a spin of death when I run it from a network share setup as as detailed in NMTinstall and following forum posts here. But that is a different kettle of fish.
For now, any general broad brush stroke ideas on getting my system set up and ready for the Comcast digital switchover? I am reading forum posts and see references to IR Blaster, MCE Blaster, USB-UIRT, Net2HIPsend, and a whole host of other confusing stuff.
System AMD X2 4800 system. XP-Pro SP3. 2GB RAM. 2TB Drive space. Running 2 HVR-1600's. Streaming to PCH (Using PCH ihome server until I figure out GBPVR issue described above).
I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty, I just need some broad ideas on how to proceed. Everyone has always been so helpful in the forums in the past and I'm hoping I roll a 7 on this question.
hello - is there any way to get GBPVR to automatically run ccExtractor to create .srts once a show has finished recording? Some simple way of scripting this or something?
I always forget to run ccextract much to my wifes annoyance when we play shows on our popcorn hour.
Hi. I'm trying to get EWA to work on my new Windows 7 machine, and I'm getting nowhere. After following the wiki installation instructions more than once, I can't even access EWA on my host machine. IE says "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection." I'm not really sure where to look to solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm rebuilding my PVR with new motherboard/RAM/CPU and wondering if things have changed since a few years ago with regards to the MCE hardware being able to change channels on my Dish Network's STB.
I am currently using a USB-UIRT and blasting bud to change channels, but if I can eliminate it and use the MCE hardware for both Rx and Tx duties, that would simplify the config and wiring. I don't want to use any intermediary software, like HIP/Girder etc. Is this possible now? I read pBS excellent posts on the progress he's made with changing the function of the MCE remote buttons (nice work!) but didn't get a clear indication if MCE hardware can be used to change channels natively now.
Also, I have a Windows 7 Home license burning a hole on my shelf that I'd like to put to use. How's the stability of GBPVR under Win7? See any glaring issues of replicating my configuration (see my Sig) under 7? Since there is a RAM limitation with the Haup PVR-150, I'll be using only 2GB RAM. I will probably just install 32bit unless anyone has recommendations because of issues with Haup PVR-150, HDhomerun, USB-UIRT drivers to go with 64bit instead.
First of all, I would like to thank everybody here for a great forum and specially the developers of the gbpvr for great software!
I've been setting up an htpc here at home, and I am using the Hauppauge PVR-150 NTSC version eventhough the standard here in Brasil is PAL-M, but that should be no problem.
My problem is:
When I restart the computer and automaticly start gbpvr, the live tv works great, but If I close gbpvr and start it again, the tv capture card looses completly the quality and turns black and white and fuzzy... The same thing happens when I record something from the Tv.
I think this is probably a driver problem, but I've tried almost everything.
1. I've got he newest drivers from hauppauge and wintv6.
2. I tried tweaking the tv card with hauppauge tweak tool, but nothing.
Can anyone direct my into the right direction on this one?
Specs: Windows XP SP2, Hauppauge PVR-150 ntsc.
Also... I've would like to add... The WinTV has the same terrible image quality, so it could be a driver problem.
Two of my ClearQAM channels are not appearing in the XMLTV file.
I tried adding the channels and then mapping them, but I'm not fully aware how to do it. I click on Manual Scan and try to scan for the channel (it's 15-7 and 27-1), but they are not found. Windows Media Center detects these channels just fine.
Finally feeling motivated to get a "slick" themed version out for CS. Still a work in process, as I am looking to strike a balance of working with fanart images. Still have a ways to go.
My problem is that I'm trying to move some records in the Recurring view to change their priorities.
I don't have an MCE remote so I'm testing using the keyboard.
I'm using the ctrl+Right Arrow & ctrl + Left Arrow, but the just act like I'm hitting page up/page down.
Here's the details I posted in the other post just in case. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm using GB-PVR 1.4.7.
It appears that I'm unable to change the priority of the records. I've tried using Ctrl + Right Arrow*
in the standard "Records" plug-in, "Recurring" menu*
and in the "TV Recordings" plug-in, "Recurring" menu
and in the "XRecordings" plug-in, "Reocurring" menu
In all cases, it's acting just like page-down.
I've looked at the RECORDING_SCHEDULE table and all entries have some value for the Priority column. All of the imported recordings have a Priority of "0" (there are several with this value).
I can go through and make them all unique as suggested in a previous post (actually, I'll probably back up the table and start from scratch to see if I can make it work with no recordings)...but if anyone has any thoughts..I'd love to hear them.

seeing if any of you guys can think of a creative solution...
Is there a way to (maybe with a device) have something act as a pass-thru for optical audio? meaning it sits between a STB's optical output and the HD-PVR's optical input, and ensure that there's always some output being sent out? that would solve the bug:
A lot of Dish Network's HD stbs (like the 211k) momentarily cut the audio stream on optical output during a channel change when set to DD5.1 mode.
Even though video is still there, the <1 second missing audio stream causes the HD-PVR to stop recording, and as a result, it's basically useless for scheduled recordings and timeshifting since the channel change ends the recording.
If I switch to PCM output from the stb, then the HD-PVR won't stop recording. Hauppauge tech support confirmed to me that this is how the HD-PVR behaves (the difference in the DD5.1 and PCM inputs), and that it's a hardware issue that can not be changed by drivers or firmware.
