New system, Win XP Pro w/ PCH A100 and GBPVR 1.4.7

I feel like a complete nimrod. Maybe because it's late and I'm tired, but I just can't get over this hurdle.

The PCH powers up and I can browse the network. I see the Work Group (select it), can see the PVR-PC (select it), but the PCH says "no content found on server"

I ran NMTInstall and got the latest files. Simple File Sharing is enabled, as is the Guest Account, and the MVPMC, GBPVR, and media library folders are all shared. I'm stumped.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Brad

Sorry, until you are able to see your shares, I can't help. Maybe remove the share from the mvpmc folder and add it again, perhaps Simple File Sharing wasn't enabled fully when you did the install?

If not, typically in a brand new install sharing is relatively easy to install using the link in the dummies guide instructions, so I'd focus on what you installed on your own (networking including the subnet, firewalls) etc, and make sure you get it working with the NMT's Network Browser first, to rule out other configuration issues.

Sounds like help to me! Thanks Martin, I'll give it a try.

Happy Easter (if you partake). :-)

OK, I removed the shares, removed mvpmc folder, re-ran the NMTinstall.exe and left all the defaults checked. No dice. I shutdown ZA, McAfee Security Suite, and Spybot S&D. No change. I can still find the work group and server, but the message still comes back "no content found on server".

I found a link about setting up the share on the NMT via the web interface, but maybe that's getting ahead of myself. It didn't work anyway as I hit a bump there too. I can load the preferences page, but when I try to add a share, the page for that doesn't load, it replaces the NMT IP's with 127.0.0.1 in the url.

Any other ideas? Maybe I'll try a search of the NMT forum?

Thanks,
-Brad

Well I've got my laptop connected to the shares on the PVR PC. Does that say anything?

So I got it to connect by manually adding the share via Setup-Network Share-Add and typing in the share with the remote (painful) as "smb://<servername>/mvpmc". Now the server shows up on the Media Source screen, I can pick it, scroll to the right-most icon (task list?) which shows one option, "GB-PVR.html". Picking that, I get the blue screen with the white box in the middle with three options. I don't go through this very often on my own system, but this seems right. I tried the first two, "GB-PVR" and "GB-PVR via Browser" and both come back with "Request cannot be processed".

???

Thanks,
-Brad

Sorry again not much too offer, Microsoft makes SMB style networking too tough to diagnose, and the fact that MS to MS works means very little. Perhaps your SMB Master Browser isn't working/enabled or you have configured your PCH and PC on different sub-nets.

Regarding the connect, provide the output from the NMT Syntax check I will look and see if there are any configuration issues.

Happy Easter weekend to you too. It's been summer-like here, a bit of an odd mix with earliest spring flowers, so not much time for keyboard.

Update - I brought the PCH A100 home and plugged it into my system. I replaced my PCH A110 as follows.

1. Changed the MAC address in Config.xml
2. Restarted the recording service
3. Set the PCH static IP address

It appears to be having the same problem on my system (my PCH A110 works fine). I can get to the MVPMC share, select "GBPVR", but it comes back with "Request cannot be processed". Bad PCH? Or is there something else I should have changed in the setup? As a point of possible interest, it also see my TVersity media server, and seems to have no trouble playing the content available through it. Not sure what that says.

Thanks,
-Brad

Hold the phone! Selecting "GBPVR via Network Browser" does work - silly me, I just assumed since the first selection on the menu didn't work... I'll do some digging, I recall seeing some info on the forums somewhere on what it means if the browser works but the direct link doesn't.

Paste the information from the NMT Syntax check and I'll have a look if you'd like.
