I'm having a problem with my HVR-1600 QAM card. The analog works fine but I'm having trouble getting the HD side to do a scan. I recorded a program the other night so I know the card is working (House on HD). I was also having trouble getting WinTV to scan (it would stop scanning pretty quick).
I have Verizon FIOS and have been recording for the last 6 months. Yesterday Verizon did a massive change to their lineup and I have to rescan the HD channels. Every time I start to scan in GBPVR, the card gets to the second channel and I get a Windows error. If I plug in an OTA cable, I can get the card to scan (although there are no channels found). I moved the card to another slot and now I can get WinTV to scan and I can watch Live TV with WinTV. GBPVR will still not scan (it still gets through the first channel slowly but hangs on the second with a Windows error). I even tried a fresh install of GBPVR but it didn't help.
I'm wondering if there is some signal that Verizon is sending on the first couple of channels that is messing up the scan. Is there any way to get the card to start scanning at about channel 50 or so to bypass the first couple of channels? Any other ideas?
Title pretty much says it all. I'm getting curious about GB-PVR on Vista. Hows the performance on identical hardware and with high demand video like HD?
I'm setting up GB-PVR to work with a Pinnacle 800i card. I was able to set up and scan the QAM channels with no problem. It doesn't want to pick up the analog channels though.
I have scanned on both the compatible BDA drivers:
'Pinnacle PCTV HD (QAM)' picks up the ATSC channels and nothing else.
'Pinnacle PCTV HD' doesn't pick up any channels. The Pinnacle software doesn't pick up any non-QAM digital channels either so that's not too surprising.
I can't figure out how to scan simple analog channels though. The Pinnacle software finds all the basic cable channels so I know the hardware is capable. I'm just not sure how to get gbpvr to access them.
Should the card have a direct.ini entry or should the ATSC scans be picking up the analog channels?
I've been playing around with gb for a few days now. I got it working to some extent but was having problems with channels above 70. They all came in fuzzy and distorted on the live tv. I figured if I played with the settings enough I could get the rest to come in - wrong. I did something that now I can't get anything out of live tv.
I looked through some of the log files and noticed this in one of them:

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this?
Howdy all - I've spent the better part of two days making a coax optical connector for my MB's SPDIF header and trying to get it to work -- with not a
db emerging through my AV receiver.
Going through my "junk" hardware boxes for a another header to try I came across a Dynex 5.1 sound card that is ubiquitous on Ebay for about $15.00.
DL'd the latest Envy24 drivers and clicked a couple of settings in the control panel and voila! Lovely digital sound all around 8^). It ain't audiophile quality but I bet good enough for 90% of us.
Highly recommended if you're looking for a cheap digital sound solution.
Well it's been a while since I posted here. Mainly because my old system and server has been running flawlessly for three years and all upgrades have gone fine. Until now.:mad:
Not Gbpvr's fault at all but the server I run it from has finally crapped out and I'm ready to take the plunge on building a new system. I've been reading up here and elsewhere on a good mobo to base it on as I've been out of the loop so to speak for quite a while.
Here is a brief breakdown of what I want from the system.
PVR running Gbpvr obviously, File server, I currently run through a couple of mvp's and will do so in the short term but come the new year sales I hope to be upgrading the TV to hdmi so the new board will need to be capable. The system also has to be reasonably quiet and able to be used for moderate daily surfing etc. Not a big gamer so that's not important. I do do a lot of work with Cakewalk and home recording so thats a consideration as far as audio goes.
My thoughts so far are something like this. Any comment on this or recommendations for a better mobo would be appreciated. Aso what cpu would be good for that board considering I want to keep it cool and quiet as well as run the apps above.
Also looking for advice on a decent quiet power supply and a quiet cpu fan. I thought I'd get the mobo and cpu sorted before I move on to them though. Suggestions for those also gratefully appreciated though. Sorry for for rambling and thanks for any help and advice.
I'm running the latest version. I'm using a digital to analog converter box with an IR blaster controlling it with HIP. I can watch live TV and I'm able to change channels in live tv through GBPVR, but what ever channel I leave it on in live tv is the only channel that will record even if I set another channel to record. So basically GBPVR recording system will not automatically change the digital converter box to the right channel for recording. I'm even able to select the channel on the TV guide and say watch and have the right channel pop up. So it is something with the recording system. This may have happened when I upgraded to the new system, because my system was working fine before. I've been busy so I have not been paying attention. I hope someone can help. It is so frustrating. I love GBPVR and I don't want to use anything else.
Until recently I was using the elecard decoder (ran ok for me), but the trial ran out so I switched back to PDVD8. This (in a windowed mode on my PC screen) would stutter every 4-5 seconds, not badly but enough to irritate.
I switched to vmr9 fullscreen exclusive and this has offered the smoothest playback (except for some bad TS recordings, see other threads). However:
1) it seems unstable and earlier tonight I even had my entire system freeze (during choppy playback of a TS file), requiring me to press reset.
2) Last night when I exited playback, the pvrx2 menus were frozen, but thankfully I was able to click exit and it responded.
3) Pretty much every time I exit pvrx2, it fails to cleanup the display and I have to refresh my desktop.

Sorry, I feel I keep raising nothing but bug reports, but I keep finding problems.
I have a totally new htpc, nicely spec'd hardware and fresh OS install on a clean hard drive with very little on it - mainly gbpvr (plus vnc, iMon, PowerCinema[don't use], avgfree, seamonkey...), so there should not be many other factors in my problems.
