MSI MS8609 VOX USB 2.0 config
Posted by: BBK - 2008-02-28, 12:03 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,
I am trying to configure the MSI MS8609 TV Tuner card and have not had any luck. This is the direct.ini file and also attached the filtercheck log. Any help would be very much appreciated. My symptom is a click on live TV and don't get any video/audio.

Also, any idea how to open up a firewall port to setup the direct schedule electronic program guide (ie what ports - I tried TCP 7968 and 7967 but that didn't work).

  Mac MPEG problem
Posted by: rdaleypa - 2008-02-27, 08:18 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Hi All,

I was given an older iMac recently which I was going to use to watch the mpeg files that I recorded with gbpvr. I realize that GBPVR is a PC application but I thought I'd give these forums a shot. I record all my video via GBPVR on a central server and watch them on various computers/laptops that I have. I usually run them directly from the drive on my server.

First off, apple wants you to buy a plug-in for quicktime to play mpeg2 files so I downloaded VLC media center which I have used with great success on all of our PCs, including my daughters P-2 with 128 mb or ram Smile. On the mac, the playback is choppy, even though it has a G4 PowerPC processor and 384 Mb of ram. I only have 10 Gb of hard drive space on the mac so I would rather not download the videos directly to the machine.

Any ideas? Could this be a problem with the video drivers?

Thanks!
Rich

  Buying MediaMVP
Posted by: jpete1019 - 2008-02-27, 07:05 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (28)

I'm looking for a cheap MediaMVP Wired or Wireless, and was just wonder if anybody has had any luck finding any in places other than ebay, craigslist, and the website formerly known as "Froogle" (Google Shopping)?

I'm watching a couple on ebay right now, but not guarantee. I see an auction right now for two of them for about $10 with six days out (prolly will end at $100)...If get the two would somebody be interested in splitting the cost?

I was thinking about setting up a wired one with a wireless G bridge...is this a bad idea?

Anyone heard of this DVR software?

Mediaportal http://www.team-mediaportal.com

It looks like it borrowed alot from GBPVR. It also doesn't look as "together".

  Error 1406
Posted by: pcostanza - 2008-02-27, 04:48 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Got a problem installing ONLY 2 pieces of software in Vista that I know are Vista compatible and HAVE worked before. I reimaged my drive and then added CorelDraw X4 and part of the way thru the install, I get the "error 1406.Could not write value to key". Of course I google it and everything suggested was tried or already correct. So I tried to install X3....same error.
No other program is giving me this error and of course, Corel has been no help. To get help, they want $$$$. They tell me it's my system but why don't any other programs give me this error?
I only post here as I know there are some very knowledgeable folks and I'm hopeful that someone else 'thinks outside the box' and has a suggestion.

  Media Center Keyboard & HIP
Posted by: flyswatta - 2008-02-27, 04:27 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I'm thinking about picking up a Media Center Keyboard for general web surfing and stuff on my PVR in the living room.

I found an OEM model for a really good price (doesn't have the receiver) but since I already have an MCE receiver for the remote, I figure I'm okay.

Since I use HIP with the remote (and had to patch to the alternate IR Driver), can I still use this keyboard without having to use HIP for the keyboard and mouse part?

I seem to remember that GBPVR worked without using HIP, but it would send double down and up arrow commands which made menu navigation difficult - so I used the alternate driver and HIP.

Oh, and I'm using XP Pro, not MCE.

Basically, is anyone using this keyboard and can you let me know if there are any pitfalls with it? Just trying to get some honest opinions before I spend the money Smile.

  Networking question
Posted by: Firetoad - 2008-02-27, 02:24 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

To all,

I have found that his particular niche forum is a very technically competent and just a plain smart crowd: a great resource! enough brown-nosing I guess... Big Grin

Anyway, I am having an issue with my home network. Here are the stat's for all of the network appliances:

- D-Link DI-524 Wireless B/G Router, My machines are all setup with Static DHCP assigned IP's

- Hardwired Machine: ECS K7S5A (old board but a workhorse!) with onboard SiS 900 NIC, 1.5 GB DDR RAM, Athlon XP 2400+, Windows XP Home

- Primary Wireless Machine: HP Laptop, AMD TK-57 Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, Built-in Wireless, Windows Vista Home Premium

I could toss out stats all day, but I don't think anymore is necessary.

Originally, the hardwired machine (acting more as a NAS and video capture server while serving some video editing functions) was connected to the router via a 6 foot factory made ethernet cable. These were both located in my basement. Wireless signal strength seemed to be OK. No major file transfer problems, etc. with this setup.

To the present, I got a wild one up the "you-know-what" and decided to rebuild the server as strictly a storage and tv capture machine. In doing so, I decided to move my broadband modem and router to my first floor where the laptop does most of the work for increased signal strength and for the desire to add a MediaMVP to the network (5 feet from the router). So, I decided to do the rebuild of the hardwired machine on my first floor to keep from having to sit in the basement for hours on end. While doing this, I used a 15' foot factory made ethernet cable to connect to the router. Everything with file transfers, internet downloads, etc. were fine.

After finishing the build, I placed the "server" style box back into my basement and made up a cable out of some Cat5 I purchased from Lowe's approximately 40' long. I hooked everything up and found that when initially connecting to the network, everything worked fine, but in short order, everything crawled to a halt. I could ping the machine from my laptop but started noticing packet loss and increased ping times. I assumed that I maybe goofed up a connector on one end of the cable, i.e. poor crimping, improper crimp, etc. So, I cut both ends, testing each one separately, and replaced. Same story! I then thought I was maybe getting some goofy interference from my cable routing path. So, I isolated the ether net cable, but still the problem remained. Tried different router lan ports, but no change. Router reboots produced the same problems. Checking some drivers and finding a few other problems, I reloaded windows, installed some older, known working drivers on the mobo and found that the problem still existed! So, I decided to bring the machine back upstairs and connect through the 15' cable I connected to earlier and everything worked as it should!

My thoughts are that the cable, somehow is just plain bad. Never ran across bad cable myself (bad terminations yes, but not bad cable itself). However, I am wondering if the problem is maybe the increased length of cable. If that is the case, is it the onboard NIC or the router having trouble with the distance.

So, my question/help request is: What are everyone's thoughts here? Cable, hardware? How would everyone go about testing the individual components without spending gobs on individual new equipment pieces (Besides, that is just "spraying and praying" to fix the problem, not really evaluating and solving)?

Thanks in advance and my apologies for the thesis-length post!

Hi, I'm trying to use the bgt3540 (blackgold 6in1) tuner with gbpvr but with no luck. Do you know if it's supported by the program? If yes, can anyone help me with the configuration?

Thanks in advance,

  Upconversion of GBPVR Recordings?
Posted by: bdgbill - 2008-02-27, 12:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I just bought a Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player. The HD-DVD playback was pretty much what I expected but the upconversion of standard DVD's blew me away.

My standard DVD's look 90% as good as the HD content from my STB. This is really way beyond what I expected.

I thought I saw a post somewhere about upconverting DVD's with FFD Show. Is it possible to upconvert my tv recordings with FFD? My GBPVR rig is 2.4 GHZ and should have the horsepower.

This would really be the best of both worlds. I noticed that since I got an HD TV I have been watching my recordings less, prefering to watch whatever is on one of the 7 HD channels I get.

I'm assuming that if it is possible I would need a new video card since my card has only S-video and composite out.

Is anyone doing this?
