  Two PVR's One Storage Area
Posted by: jpete1019 - 2008-02-28, 02:41 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (9)

Is this possible? I could I potential have two different boxes going with TV Tuner cards in them, and then just have them storing there recordings in one place, and then when the one wants to watch a show it just has to stream it as a client....?

Aquos 42", which is better HDMI or D-Sub?
Posted by: mkenyon2 - 2008-02-28, 02:39 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

Looking at this TV, which seems like a great deal, it has HDMI and VGA D-Sub connectors. Which would be the best input? My PC has VGA, S-Video, and DVI outputs. So, I could do DVI to HDMI, or VGA to VGA. (or S-Video/component if necessary, but I know that's not as good.)

  XmltvExtras and I-Xmltv
Posted by: tjb - 2008-02-28, 02:32 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (5)

I have been attempting to get the TV Listings plugin working correctly with Schedules Direct. I was not able to get the Xmltv utility to work correctly - it would generate what appeared to be a valid xmltv.xml file, but when I imported the file into GBPvr, I would get no program listings in the TV Guide. Since then I switched to the I-Xmltv utility, and the listings get imported into the EPG correctly.

However, now when I try to run XmltvExtras.exe on the resultant xmltv.xml file, I get the following error:

Error reading C:\epg\xmltv.xml: There is an error in XML document (2, 11).

Anyone have any idea what this error means? I have attached the xmltv.xml file in case this helps.

DVD playback on PVRX2 vs. GBPVR
Posted by: ydekmekji - 2008-02-28, 05:39 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I've tried nearly every combination of decoders in the config section and can't get DVD playback to work on PVRX2. I click DVD and the screen freezes. I haev to eject the DVD to get functionality back.

By off-chance, I ran GBPVR and I can watch DVDs. Using the same configurations, I can't run them in PVRX2.

I saw this thread that kind of covered my issue, but it didn't solve it. Any thoughts?

PC Keeps rebooting if gbpvr service is running
Posted by: kungphukenobi - 2008-02-28, 05:19 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi all,

After using mythtv for the last year or so, I have had to install windows on my box (gf's orders, she really didnt like linux Sad ) After trying MCE and media portal I started getting rather worried that I wouldnt find a good PVR app that would automatically transcode...then i found GBPVR! So I still want myth back but GBPVR is pretty freakin good........apart from one very annoying problem..

The box keeps restarting itself about 3 times a day. At first i thought it was a hardware or ovreheating issue but I found that if i turn off the GBPVR recording service the box is stable and doesnt reboot.

The relevent specs are...

Core2 Duo 2.4 on Asus P5b Motherboard
4GB DDR2
Nvidia 7900GT PCIe
Dvico Fusion Lite PCI card
2X 1TB HDD's

There doesnt seem to be a trigger for these restarts, it just seems to happen randomly, it can happen whilst recording or whilst just sitting there doing nothing.

does anyone have any ideas?? Its really annoying because apart from this issue the softrware is GREAT.

getting message "Failed to fine tv tuner filter. Wrong device type?'
Posted by: olmowgli - 2008-02-28, 03:50 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

My GB-PVR system was working fine. I disconnected my computer and took it to repair shop to see if he could figure out why the computer crashes whenever I try to watch a Netfilx movie via direct download. The movie runs for 7 to 10 minutes and then the computer crashes. I get a blue screen with a bunch of useless info and it takes for ever for the computer to boot again. You simply have to turn it off and leave it alone for a hour or so.

After watching the computer fail (while watching a Netflix downloaded/streamed move) in his repair shop, he decided he couldn't help me after all, so I brought the computer back home and hooked every thing up again. When I tried to watch live TV via PVRX2 I discovered it no longer worked. I then ran the 'Tuning Assistant' and got the message 'Failed to find TV tuner filter. Wrong device type?'. I have uninstalled and relinstalled the GB-PVR system. I made sure the Hauppauge 'Roslyn' tv tuner card is seated properly and checked the status of the 5 Hauppauge WinTV 88x device drivers that the operating system (XP Home) automatically installed when it first discovered the card. The OS says they are all working properly. Short of reformating the hard drive and replacing XP Home with XP Pro, and then reinstalling everything, what do I do. Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

The machine has an AMD 6000 dual core processor (I'm told XP Home treats it as a single core) with 2 gig of ram, an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card and a 300 gig HD.

  Occational Skip/Choppy Video - FIXED
Posted by: pbb - 2008-02-28, 03:46 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I've tried several "tweaks" to my system to resolve an occational skip/choppy video issue. The skip doesn't happen all the time, but at least once in each video. I tried increasing the pci latency on my box, defragging my hard drive. I even separated my 2 drives onto 2 different buses. I had heard that if your drive was going bad that it might skip, so I started recording on my new(er) drive. I'm sure these things helped, but none resolved my issue. The only thing that fixed it was to increase the process priority to RealTime for the gbpvr recording service. I also increased the priority for the mvp to Above Normal, but that shouldn't affect the recording. You have to download a tool to change the priority - at least I couldn't change it right in Task Manager (probably has to do with the account the service is running under). I used ProcessExplorer to do this. I should also emphasize that this is all I use this pc for, and I always watch video on the MVP.

  What's the best HTPC motherboard?
Posted by: gazoo - 2008-02-28, 03:00 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (13)

Yes, I know, this thread again. I'm looking into building a client machine and I was looking for a good micro atx board.

I found quite a few, but almost none of them have dual channel. I'm not sure if this is such a bonus. Here are my requirements:

- micro atx
- Onboard video capable of 1080i, maybe 1080p. DVI or HDMI ok (at least those). Nvidia seems more advanced for onboard than ATI, but I'm open for any suggestion
- Onboard SPDIF audio. Optical preferred, coax ok. Will give this up for regular analog if I can get nice onboard video.
- I'm partial to Intel, but will go AMD if that's the only way to get the stuff above.

My main concern is if onboard video can make it. I REALLY want to avoid getting a video card. This reduces cost and lets me use a really nice small case like Ahanix, etc.

Gigabit, MSI, Asrock all have nice boards with the 7050/7150 Nvidia GPUs. I believe there are x1250 ATI boards available too. I was of the impression that the 7150s were more capable than the x1250s, but I'll wait for some posts with feedback on that.

Just had an interesting PM form "Stephanie"

"Stephanie" appears not to be terribly interested in GB-PVR but very interested in buddhism......hmmmm

Quote:Hi,
I'm new here, how's it going?

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things as a meaningful unity" - Albert Einstein
