  EVR and aspect ratio problems with possible Fix
Posted by: caazak - 2007-12-31, 11:27 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I was experiencing a problem with aspect ratios when using EVR. I found a few references but no solutions in the forums. Unexpected (and large) black bars surrounded 16/9 video, no matter what aspect ratio I selected with F7. These displayed as expected with the other renderers.

After many hours of tweaking, I decided to see if there was a patch for .NET 3.0 (via Windows update). There was and I installed it. The problem has gone away.

I still see white noise on the top line of some channels. Another poster speculated that it might be from closed captioning. Not sure. Not a big concern to me at this point.

Just FYI. Thanks for the nice product.

  ATI Pro 650 working with QAM
Posted by: 5l4k3r - 2007-12-31, 10:26 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (12)

Hi, I just downloaded and installed gbpvr 1.1.5 and got the ATI Pro 650 working with QAM and Charter cable. I just had to add the tuner to the dba.ini. The entry is as follows.

[ATI 650 Pro (QAM)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=ATI BDA Digital Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=ATI BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

I'm tuning through a PCI version of the Built By ATI card. This is the old card that said nothing about doing QAM on the box. I bought it about a year ago at BB. I'm using the latest (7.12) drivers from the AMD/ATI website, and am running windows XP sp2.

EDIT:
I just got and installed a second HD650 this week. This one is a VisionTek card, and it works also. I'm now using XP sp3, GB-PVR v1.2.13 and the drivers are the latest off of the ATI site (version 8.5).

I tried installing the Built by ATI card on a lite version of Vista Premium, and I couldn't get it to work. So far from my experience, the 650 will only tune QAM in XP.

  guide changes channels but not scheduled recordings
Posted by: tvshowman - 2007-12-31, 04:18 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

I been racking my brain for hours on hours trying to figure thid out,

I installed the rf blaster drivers and now have the option to use the MCE Ir blaster to control the set-top box in the channel config insted of using HIPSEND.

I prefer the MCE blaster options as the channel switching is swift and precise.

The problem I have is that my sceduled recordings are being ignored by the blaster and only live tv and selecting any channel in the guide works flawlessly. I am at a loss to figure out how to get the scheduler to use the blaster. Is there a config file I can look at to point the scheduler to choose the irblaster directly as the guide and live tv do?

very frustrating as I have tried everything I can thnik of to resolve the matter including removing all channels and configs and basically starting from scratch as well as using the alternative drivers and even setting the tuner as a solo and still cannot get a scheduled timer to input the numbers. GBPVR change the set-top box fine in the guide and live tv but just refuses to help out on the recordings which is so important.

Anyone with any idea?

please help

Cheers!

  No Center Channel Sound
Posted by: matthew_dickson - 2007-12-31, 04:07 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (15)

I have used both AC3Filter and FFDSHOW and I can't get any sound on livetv from my center channel. I used the most recent version of both.

I have an analog setup (SoundBlaster Audigy SE) card. Both FFDSHOW and AC3Filter show output levels for the center channel.

In FFDSHOW I never get center channel sound. With AC3Filter I get it if I record the show and watch it but not in live TV. I watch a show and get no center have GBPVR record it for 5 minutes and watch the recording and everything works in the recording. If I switch back to the show in progress (i.e. live) no center sound.

Has anyone gotten AC3Filter to do realtime analog encoding?

  Audio Output Source
Posted by: DaRacerz - 2007-12-31, 03:08 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi,

On my system I have two different Audio sources. One Audio Output (Playback) Source is set to Default for Windows. Then I have a seperate Audio Output Source which I want to use just for my TV. Is there any way to tell GBPVR to use Audio Output Source #2 instead of the Default Source?

Thanks

Hi,

I cannot get the VFD on this MSI Media Live barebone to work with PVRX2.

I'm not entirely sure what model of VFD is on this machine, but I believe it is a Futaba dm-140gink...

Anyone know of a driver I can download? Or even better, a plugin...

Cheers.

  Smoothing AVI playback ?
Posted by: Rory - 2007-12-30, 11:16 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi
when I play back a PAL XVID avi in Media Player it looks amazing. I know I can't expect the same quality via MVP, but it seems to be significantly worse and I would like to tweak my transcoding to get the best quality. What is messing up playback is not stuttering but a lot of jaggedness (jaggies) on any curves like text. It is especially noticeable in title sequences and big logos. I don't get this on Mpegs created by GBPVR, only on AVIs playing via the MVP. I would like some tips on where to start tweaking or different codecs to try. I am not sure if it is compression artifacts, some sort of deinterlacing artifact (source is not interlaced) or just poor mpeg quality.
My specs:
Athlon XP2400 768MB Ram, MVP, Muxchecker reports Intervideo 3.0.88.0, Cyberlink 5.0.1307 on the playback tab in config everything is at default, PVRX2/GBPVR renderers are VMR9 Custom, I am trying to play back a PAL XVID with AC3, 640 x 272. No FFDShow, No FFMpeg.

  DVB-T Radio plugin - testers needed
Posted by: bgowland - 2007-12-30, 09:13 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (4)

I have a basic DVB-T Radio plugin that has been tested on a few systems by myself and another forum member. We're now looking for one or two more testers in order to compare results to identify some teething problems.

The code should be considered Alpha-level so testers need to do a small amount of work to identify the tuning info for their region and be happy looking at log files etc.

Also, the radio component currently works independently of GB-PVR so testers must be aware that there IS a possibility it will interfere with normal GB-PVR activity. In other words, if you try to use it while GB-PVR is recording a DVB-T TV channel, it may trash the recording. You've been warned.

Any UK Freeview users prepared to put in a bit of work on this over the next couple of days, please PM me your email address and I'll send through the binaries and instructions.

Cheers,
Brian
