  TivoHD or BIY GBPVR-HD
Posted by: paulg - 2007-12-25, 12:27 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

I play with GBPVR on and off. Don't quite have the time to get my bag of bits hardware working correctly. Do all my recording on a Tivo Series two with a large disk. It works flawlessly for me. However, OTA HD is here and there is good content out there. I tried(minimal) to get GBPVR running HD. I can record but playback sucks. Anyway, I looked to getting the new TiVO HD. Would cost $300 plus $100/year or a lifetimer service for another $400.

So my question to this group is....

Where is the sticky that says "buy this server, this capture, this video and install this image and presto! you have a GBPVR based HD PVR. Is it possible to build a reliable (WAF) system for $400-$500? Can we get a cook book together for those of us that just want to build it, not engineer it? Or did I miss the post that has all the answers with no questions?

Thanks
Paul

  video decoder q

how do you figure out which decoder your system is using - i set it to nvidias pure video and it wont use it (whereas media center will use it with recordings with no issues). attached logs. thanks

this is a client system, btw - purevid working fine on main server

  Remotes
Posted by: steelfanatic - 2007-12-24, 11:28 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Questions here: I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3000 and two TV cards: the PVR-150 regular with standard Happ remote, a MCE PVR-150 with a USB "bean-bag" (grey) {fourth one on the right on the MCE remotes page}.
My regular hauppage remote blaster will NOT work (weak) with my box, can I still use my Happ MCE remote? Do I have to use HIP to get it to work?

Also I have an ATI remote wonder, if all fails can that be used to control my STB? (probably a dumb question here).

Overwrite previous file when recording service restart
Posted by: Basher52 - 2007-12-24, 11:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I run 1.1.5 and I just noticed an overwrite of the file named:
'yada_yada-2.mpg' when I had to restart the recording service(in a advert break)
I dont know if this has happened before or could have happened since I never did a test like this, but now I saw it so I could fix it by renaming the file and start over.

I was sitting testing the new installation of the OS and after I installed 1.1.5 and put the .config and .db3 back I started to do some tests.
I got the latest EWA (Date: 2007-12-20 Build Number: 70)

Could this be a bug, either in GBPVR or EWA?
Or it is just me as always :p

how I fixed my "failed to start Conexant Graph", or empty recording folder problem
Posted by: jetjaguar - 2007-12-24, 10:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I fell victim to the problem wherein gbpvr creates a folder for a recording, yet creates no recording file. The status says it's recording, but no file is created. This was on a fresh install.

I had recently reinstalled windows and set up gbpvr and all was well. Then, due to a hdd problem, had to nuke and re-install windows again. This time, I started getting the above problem.

So how can it be that two installations, one after another, don't work the same? I checked all the config settings, everything fine.

Then I realized the one thing I had done differently on the second install. I had only downloaded the critical updates from M$oft, not the additional ones. One of those additional updates was a driver for my Sapphire Theatrix 550, cheap version of ATI 550. Once I ran all those updates, everything is fine. I could have also downloaded the driver from ATI.

So if you have that issue, make sure you have the latest driver for your capture card.

Posted by: mvallevand - 2007-12-24, 08:35 PM - Forum: MVPMC dongle - Replies (8)

I thought I'd post my reply here, since this is where I like to confuse people.

Quote:scp binary was there but it was missing... something it needed, and the box isn't up at them moment.

You need to create and store the required dropbear ssh security certs and files on the client and sever. I think you also have to add a password for root. I haven't done this for months and I don't remember any more than this but the dropbear site explains it all.

toomanyhandles Wrote:The recordings I'm playing are "medium" quality. And for the rtwin variable-- how to get that to stick between power cycles?

To persist any changes in mvpmc you need a dongle.bin.config file. The "medium" setting probably is actually pretty high bit rate if you use GBPVR to create the files. Somethings can be changed via the web interface, but there is no consistency on the project.

Quote:And-- how to get back to mvpmv setting screen once emulation mode is going? Only power cycle? power cycle plus dongle change on config is the only way I've found to get the setting screen back consistently I think, although I didn't play that much.

You can get back the the mvpmc menu with the Go Back key combination.

Quote:I'd like to take a look at the system once it is in emulation mode but I can't telnet in at that point; what is set up for getting in at that time?

This I can't explain at all. I do this more often than not.

Quote:It would be fun if some binary tools were optional and able to be downloaded separately, maybe they are already.

I've build quite a few. If you have a linux machine Jon Gettler the lead for mvpmc has made building a toolchain trivial.

Quote:Anything to check on the HTPC side?

Awaiting logs.

  picture in graphic?
Posted by: tvshowman - 2007-12-24, 06:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (15)

Hi!

When i click the "info" button on my report I see nice "Video in graphic" menu's and I really enjoy this. I only get sound in tvguide and I am wondering if there is an option to show a small video window in the guide or is this something that is undeveloped at the moment?

Or do I need to change graphic settings?

cheers!

  bug or missing feature?
Posted by: tvshowman - 2007-12-24, 06:14 PM - Forum: SearchWiz & MovieWiz - Replies (8)

Hi!

I love the plugin and use the unique search features to plan my recordings days in advance.

I use an MCE-500 and the MCE - remote.

when I press the "info" button on the remote I get "Video in graphics" in all the menu's of GBVR and only sound in the tv guide but saddly no small video screen... anyway....

When I enter the searchx2 menu I have video that takes up almost half the real estate and it actually blocks the search areas so it is impossible to use this plugin with the video in graphics feature.

just wondering if it is my hardware or a software glitch or simply a yet to be developed area.

Thanks for a great plugin.

  Jerky Live video
Posted by: Glynderi - 2007-12-24, 02:57 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi,

I know it's Christmas Eve, but one does these things when there's a moment! :-)

First of all - Happy Christmas & New Year to all.

I'm running 1.1.5 on:

Windows XP Pro SP2 plus all bits & pieces.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2Gb ram
NVidia GeForce 6200 256Mb ram

Twin Hauppage Nova-T PCI 90002
Separate external aerial input.

Logs attached.

Problem:

When I try to watch Live TV all programs are very jerky and unwatchable.
Recorded programs are great. Occasionally I get gaps & distortion on Freeview channels, but basically watching recorded programmes is fine. It's just the live stuff which is all wrong.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Robin Davies
