record to SRT while without MOVIE record
Posted by: kkm - 2006-10-31, 05:22 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

hello admin, sub Smile

I have a good idea, because the most device can't support while subtitles and TV watching. that is problem, is it possible first device record only SRT (subtitles file) and other second device record only movie. that is better for encode SRT, or not?

A open VA2000 tv (Nvidia) card
Posted by: joslo - 2006-10-31, 05:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hi, I'm a newby with gbpvr and I can't get my VA2000 card working.
I've read the section in the Wiki about editing the ini but I can't find the Source Filters (only the BDA MPE Filter and BDA Slip De-Framer are vissible) in Graphedit. Is there someone who can help me editing the ini?

Or is there someone who is working with this kind of card. it uses de Nvidia tuner with te NVTV driver.

Excuse me for my poor English (not a native speaker :-)

  Formating the PC
Posted by: madcat - 2006-10-31, 01:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

The rig (can you call a laptop a rig? it's a T42) I'm running GBPVR is very limited. Until recently, there was no real problem. However, moving from my old SD 27" Sony to my new Pio 50" Plasma (PDP-5070HD if anyone is interested) introduced some problems:

I did see some image tearing before, but it was never a big deal. I was running with 800x600, however, now I run with the Pio native 1360x760. I can only think this caused more load on the poor display card (plus, with the huge screen I can see any small problem).
I get either horizontal image tearing in several locations on the screen, or some effect that looks like poor deinterlacing (or re-interlacing...) - on fast movements lot's of litle horizontal stripes at the edges, or I get something like image tearing along the diagonal line from top-right to bottom-left across the entire screen.
It changes when I play with the different MPEG2 Decoders, etc.

So, in order to try and squeeze last bit of juice from this laptop, I decided to format it and install clean.

I have basically two questions:
1) Is there a way to backup GBPVR config and use it later (all the directories, capture sources, guide, etc)?
2) What would you guys recommend to install in terms of Codecs, Encoders, deinterlacers, etc.
The T42 has 1GB mem, but a small "ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32MB". I'm using the VGA out now, but may use the DVI instead. It's being used for Live TV, recordings, and Divx/XVids.

thanks

ATI All In Wonder USB Remote
Posted by: pt-1 - 2006-10-31, 01:25 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

Apologize if that has been asked/answered before but can I fully use a ATI All In Wonder USB (RF) Remote with GBPvr to control the major Functions like browsing of the menu and recording of programs etc ?

I am asking this as the GBPvr PC is located under my stairs and I cannot use the Haupauge Nova-t USB Remote to control it.

Is the Matrox Millennium G550 the best card for Tv out?
Posted by: don_care100 - 2006-10-31, 12:05 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

This morning I read a lot on the forum to find my answer to my question.

What is the best pci-e videocard with tv-out to watch DVD's?

What I learned is that you have to watch to the following items

1) It must be able to do advanced hardware de-interlacing
2) It must have a 128 bit memory interface
3) Be sure it has a dvi out connector (for the future) (do not have a LCD yet for HDTV)

I read a lot of good things about the matrox G550 videocard but i can not find an answer to points 1 and 2 and there is a problem with the overlayed info screen? (or maybe it is solved already) The card is 139,- euro's and has 32 mb memory.

Are there other cards who are better or the same in quality, maybe with a lower price? Or is the Matrox the best card there is? (there are cards with much more memory for less money!)

My goal is to watch recordings from analoge tv and DVD's in iso format. The quality for watching dvd's must be the same as from my old standalone dvd player.

Thanks in advance.....

Don

64 bit windows or 32 bit windows
Posted by: johnnyb - 2006-10-31, 10:32 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hope someone can help. I want to upgrade my gbpvr pc from my existing 32 bit athlon xp box to a new 64 bit athlon am2 box. I think I will need to put windows xp 32 bit on the new box because I will only have 32 bit drivers for my hauppage WinTV Nova pci cards. Can a knowledgeable person please confirm this so I can buy the bits.

For my own interest: Will 64 bit windows xp work with gbpvr? I have searched the gbpvr forums but can't find much info on this subject.

VMR9 and OSD - is it the card?
Posted by: moondragon - 2006-10-31, 07:50 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

Hey all,

Still trying to figure out all this grand video stuff but I love it!

Fire up GB-PVR and it says can't do - VMR9 not supported...so I go into setup and switch to Overlay and now it works but with no OSD...

Do I only get OSD with VMR9?

Is VMR9-compatibility a function of the graphics card? I'm just using the GForce chipset that came on the mobo, but I really want OSD ... do I need to get a video card that supported VMR9?

thanks for you help!

  Matrox G450 and GBPVR
Posted by: kiwijaffa - 2006-10-31, 07:46 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hope this is the right place to ask this question..

I was wondering if anyone has experience running a dual head Matrox G450 with GBPVR and whether they had any issues with it or whether there are any tricks getting it to work? I've currently got it set to "clone" mode where the 1st head is cloned on the 2nd head connected to the TV (quality of TV output is superb for normal screens within Windows)

Whilst setting up my PVR I had a standard monitor attached to it on head 1, I experienced choppy video playback (ver .98B) but managed to fix this by using VMR7. VMR9 or VMR9 custom resulted in choppy playback and out of synch audio.

Now the PVR is configured and setup in the lounge and connected to the TV on the 2nd head only of the Matrox card (tv out). When playing a recorded show, timeshifted tv or live TV all i get is a black screen with audio when set to overlay or VMR7. The menus etc are fine.

VMR9 and 9 custom gives me a picture with audio but it's a blurry, choppy picture and out of synch audio again.

I've tried Cyberlink and Nero decoders instead of "system default" but they give me the same result. I've also tried disabling livepreview mode and switching off the osd and teletext with the same result.

If I record a show and play it back on another pc the quality is fine, the video is not blurry and the audio is in synch so it's recording ok.

I'm not sure what to do next to fix the problem, as I don't know if it's something in GBPVR's config (decoders?) or whether it's the TV out on the Matrox card. i do know the Matrox's 2nd head is not accelerated at all would this make a difference? Why would VMR7 work on a monitor but not on the tV out?

The software is great, just wish I could fix this annoying problem.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

  New GB-PVR fan saying hello
Posted by: Shadowplay - 2006-10-31, 06:29 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hey there, I've already started asking questions in other areas of these forums so hey it's only polite to say hello before I ask to much of the community. I should warn you now this will be a bit of a read.

My story...

Been a fairly tech oriented nut for most of my life, but circumstances conspired against me so I've never had a PVR before - sob story, I know! Friend of mine had a Hauppauge PVR-250 card he wasn't using anymore so I thought I'd see if I could turn some left over hardware at work into a PVR for myself.

As a lot of people do I went straight to MythTV because that's the big name in the world of DIY PVRs. I dabble in Linux, but that's about it to be honest and I sort of got it working. Could watch live TV, but it was a very shaky setup with a lot of bugs that I didn't have the first clue about how to fix. I got tired of what is for me the normal Linux routine - up and running quickly, then countless hours of digging through forums, man pages, etc. trying to get it to do what I actually want it to with my set of hardware and goals.

Now I've done some poking around into home brew PVRs before and had at least heard of GB-PVR as one of, if not the, only free Windows options. After a particularly infuriating round with the Linux box I read up on GB-PVR and decided to give that a try on the same hardware with a different drive. That way I could easily compare the two PVR systems fairly and besides I knew I would either have GB-PVR running quickly or not in short order so it wouldn't take a lot of my time.

Skipping some of the tedium here, in short order I had a basic PVR going on Windows 2k Pro and was pretty pleased with myself that all the basic functions were *working* including live tv, scheduled recordings, even the remote control. I think once I got the remote working I was hooked. Well that and the real show stopper being ComSkip I'd have to say Big Grin.

After repeated disappointment with video playback quality (recordings were fine, but played back "iffy" in GB-PVR) I just tonight swapped out the anemic Radeon 7000 video card for a Radeon 9500Pro and *WOW* what a difference! Video is truly great now, I can use the VMR9 Custom setting and generally it's all performing wonderfully. Well that's where I am tonight after watching the latest episode of Heroes, minus the commercials of course!

Here are some tips that I learned along the way, but didn't always see spelled out in obvious places:

  • Use a "real" video card! Believe me it makes a HUGE difference going from an old dirt cheap 32mb card to a modern 128mb or better DirectX 9 hardware card. It is absolutely a night and day difference here.
  • For the smoothest TV playback set your resolution to the same as your videos, e.g. 720x480 for NTSC - my old 32mb Radeon 7000 only supported 640x480 or 800x600 so I couldn't use native video resolution until I switched to a newer card.
  • You can't make "high quality" the default for quick records so edit the "medium quality" entry and set the values to that of high quality or better since "medium quality" is what is always used for by default. Your records will still say they are using "medium quality", but you're know you're getting exactly the quality you want.
  • If recorded files playback fine outside of GB-PVR, but are not as good inside GB-PVR then it's likely either the wrong combination of settings inside GB-PVR (video decoder, overlay selection and deinterlacing being the biggies) or you have underpowered hardware, e.g. weak video card

Ok sorry for such a long post :o. I hope to keep improving on my GB-PVR box and I'm sure that will mean a lot of questions for you guys along the way. Here's my near future to-do list in order of importance:
  1. Add drive(s) to greatly increase recording ability
  2. Get priority recordings working
  3. Figure out which IR Blaster / Channel Changer to get so I can control my digital cable box.
  4. Get auto conversion to DivX or XviD working
  5. Track down occasional EPG data weirdness

GB-PVR is truly amazing and I want to thank Sub as well as the community that has helped support the project over the years.

Thanks Sub!
