I was recently reading an article about a guy who had a CarPC and one of the cool things he did using VLC. He managed to stream through his web interface (much like EWA does today) a live feed (perhaps it was time shifted) where he could change the channel. This thought seemed very very cool because now my cable subscription is not limited to just my house. If I happen to be at work and I am on my lunch hour I could in therory logon to my EWA, change the channel on one of my tuners, and stream the noon hour news !! Or say I am over at a friends house who only has basic cable and we want to watch the game... Ta da...
Ahh the digitial age is so amazing. Uncle John is this something that would be possible? or something that might be considered?
I first want to say that I am very pleased with GBPVR! I've been a lurker for almost a year as funds are tight. I finally was able to bite the bullet and get started within the last month. Which is now a new addiction as I 've been spending all my time "Fine Tuning" my rig.
Anyway, I seem to be having probs with Weather plugin. I've successfully set up several plugins, however, when I run the installer with Weather it does not show up in the Config Menu or even in the main panel. I've installed weather a few weeks ago with no problems. I currently have gbpvr v 98.13.
Anyone want to jump in? I'm sure I am missing something basic, so start at the beginning.
Hi there, I'm new to GB-PVR and PVRs in general to be honest :o. I'm looking for some advice on which IR blaster would work well for my needs.
GB-PVR (latest version) running on Win2k and left over hardware from my job
AMD Athlon 1500+
1GB RAM
Radeon 7000 (real weak link in this setup - hoping to dig out a 9600pro from another system)
Hauppauge PVR250 with remote (not MCE)
This needs to control a Comcast digital cable box. I imagine any of the IR blasters will work, but I have no idea what's what with these. I'm very budget limited right now - hence the dive into GB-PVR! - so at risk of sounding a completely cheap bastard what's the cheapest IR blaster / channel changer option you would suggest? Anything I need to be wary of?
I am a newb using GB-PVR. I have a Dish Network dual tuner receiver. I have my tuner card connected to the second tuner that has a default channel of 73. How do I go about setting up GBPVR or the tuner card to see this channel. An help is appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, I've just upgraded to 98.13 and I'm getting this message on a black screen every time I try to play back or watch live tv: "Video is playing back using TV out press Home to return to the menu" I normally find and fix the problem but I'm pretty stumped.
I'm using a PVR350, has anyone else had this problem?? I remember sub saying PVR350 's aren't supported anymore but it's been fine up 'till now.
Anybody know a fix or workaround, I'm not quite ready to shell out on a new card yet.
There must be a way to disable the tv out.
I have the Hauppauge MCE remote kit (SMK-sourced USB beanbag) connected to my HTPC running v98.08b using the Wiki instructions to configure HIP, GB-PVR and the remote.
This setup works fine but I seem to be missing a lot of remote functions. At a minimum I'd really like to enable volume control and channel change through the rocker keys.
The Wiki claims that GB-PVR support is limited for my remote so I must use HIP. I know how to teach HIP my remote's keys, but am not clear on how to configure e.g. the volume function. It would also be nice to map particular keys to particular functions within GB-PVR, like Guide. How do the rest of you set your systems up?
Thanks for any direction with my noob remote issues.
In v98.8 when I would go to my recordings, select a show then see all the episodes, I would see the show name, and next to that would be the show title --- a very nice feature that was not in previous versions.
After upgrading to v98.13 I'm back to only showing the show name - so when I select my show from the top level menu, instead of seeing:
"Show Name" - title 1
"Show Name" - title 2
"Show Name" - title 3
I only see
"Show Name"
"Show Name"
"Show Name"
And I have to select each one to see what episode it is
Themes for the Blue skin.
It is possible to tweak the new image based GBPVR Blue skin and make you own themes.
Plugin skins can also be image based and have the original Blue look.
I can "port" some Advisor Themes to Blue skin if there are any requests for it.
