Hi All,

I am a newb using GB-PVR. I have a Dish Network dual tuner receiver. I have my tuner card connected to the second tuner that has a default channel of 73. How do I go about setting up GBPVR or the tuner card to see this channel. An help is appreciated. Thanks.Sad

Is that connected via coax from the Dish box to your capture card? If so, then you'll need to create a capture source, configured for the correct card type, and set to use the 'Fixed-Channel, External Tuner' source option, and type 73 in the 'Constant channel' box.

You'll most likely also want to add an IR Blaster to you setup so that GB-PVR can tell the Dish box to change channels when it needs to.

As for the ir blaster. The tuner uses UHF. How do I go about changing the channels this way?

Normally with a set top box, you'd add an IR Blaster to you setup (like MCE Blaster, USB-UIRT, Actisys IR200L), and you learn the remote control signals you wish to emulate, then when GB-PVR needs to change channels it replays these IR signals. For example, if GB-PVR wanted the set top box to be tuned to channel 63, it would replay the IR signals for '6' followed by the IR signals for '3'.

Okay, I think I am not understanding this clearly. I am using my dvr only for viewing over my network from other computers. Therefore, it will only be recording and not playing on any televisions. If I am just scheding recordings, do I need a channel changer?

The coax coming from you Dish box will only ever be carrying the (single) channel your Dish box is currently tuned to. Without a channel changer GB-PVR will only ever be able to record the channel your Dish box is currently tuned to - you have to manually change channels on you Dish box at the right time to make sure GB-PVR recorded the right thing. Make sense?

Ahh, okay. Hmmm. What do you suggest? I see several channel changer options. If I want to computer to do the changing to I select .exe changer?

All of the options use the computer to do it.

The .exe option is typically used by people that either, (a) use serial cable with a set top box that supports this as a method for changing channels, or (b) use an external app to control an IR Blaster.

Okay, so I have an issue. My computer is in a different room than the receiver, and the only way I can change the channel is through UHF. Is IR the only way?
