Will the Tevion Digital/Analogue cards with FM tuner allow me to use the FM tuner for gbpvr?
I noticed the tevion cards are supported in Digital but not under analogue, Hoping to find a dual card dig/analogue with tuner for FM if not this brand is there a brand and model supported or do I have to get a pure anologue card with FM supported by gbpvr like the pvr500
Sub. Thanks for the fixes with the MVP blank screen and connection problems from yesterdays' Patch for 97.07.
The main reason for my upgrade was SQLite, as I thought for sure it would be faster than MSAccess.
However, doing simple things like displaying the guide is 3 to 4 times slower than MSAccess. Also, the Enhanced Web Admin takes forever to display the guide and doing a show search is quite slow.
I am wondering if there is a need for index optimization on the tables?
I'm failry new to GBPVR (2-3 months). I bet some (most? all?) of the following items have been discussed over the forum, but in any case, I wanted to add my view of things.
First of all, GBPVR is amazing. I have tried some other HTPC solutions, but none of them got close. This is the only one that gets the WAF pass. The only comment here is that MCE looks much sexier (even when we add the skins to the game). That whole swoosh-swoosh menu animation does it (to me, at least). But it just didn't work!! not to mention the lack of flexibility and configurability that GBPVR has.
Now, to the list. It's not a whole lot, more to do with end-user usage:
1) volume up/down visual feedback (I know there's a plugin)
2) brightness (and anything else possible - contrast, etc.) control, plus visual feedback
3) channel favorites - to be able to use the GUI to create "favorites", or "channel-lists". That is, create a list, and add/remove channels to/from those lists, all using on-screen menu (well, at least to be able to use them, maybe a second best would be to create/edit using the config.exe). This lets you "zap" through reduced lists.
4) show types, more general? In the channel list in the Config, one can choose colors, but the show types are very specific. Would be easier to group them into 10 types, e.g. movies, comedy, drama, etc.
Myabe even add pre-set colors?
5) search/browse by genre (see above) - to be able to search or browse the Guide using specific genre (details below)
6) auto update to the GBPVR itself (or at least notify in the main menu when there's a new version?)
7) last XML update (at least from file time-stamp) on top of Guide.
8) Phone-like keyboard using remote (I started a thread on that, using numeric keys 2=ABC, 3=DEF, etc.)
Regarding the EPG items (4, 5) - a year ago I was using cable provider in a different country (I never used the digital box here in CA), and they had a very nice EPG:
You could browse the timeline, as in all EPG, but you could browse by category hierarchy:
Movies
Reality
Sitcoms
News
etc...
Then, if you choose "Movies", it will show
All Movies
War films
Drama
Oldies
Comedies
Documentary
etc.
Then when you choose a sub-category, it will list the timeline, but only filtered to that sub-category, so you can browse the week ahead only for war-films, if that's what you fancy.
I ignored the messages and continued with the intallation. When I try and run the application, I get: This application has failed to start because HCWIRBLAST.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I have read a number of the wiki's and did a search but didn't find a solution. Might anyone have any ideas?
How would one add a channel into GB but not list it in the guide (IE favorites). The favorites checkbox in the Channels config doesn't seem to do anything for me nor can I find it referenced anywhere in the wiki to find out what it does.
Basically I would like to remove any PPV from my TVguide but still be able to setup a manual recording for a PPV channel should I need to.
How does one go about this?
Also is there any way to completely clear the EPG (channels and info) so can start from scratch? My first dump from labs had some channels I don't get and while I have manually disabled some of them, there are just to many to go one by one.
this method always reads out the programmes from the database.
When it is called from within my code, I always have a quite huge delay, and also another 40mb of memory is used.
I'm asking because GBPVR starts a thread to load the listings in the background during startup. If the thread is finished, the tv guide will open without any delay.
So, the data is already available in GBPVR, but not via the above method.
Would it be possible that GetListingsForTimePeriod() returns the pre-loaded data, if the mentioned thread has finished (and block until it has if not)?
I have noticed the last few days that when watching live TV via MVP some mpg files are generated in the root of the recordings folder prefixed with "MVP" rather than the mpg files appearing in my LiveTV folder. It's probably the first time i've used live TV since moving for 96.12 (i like to stay a release or two back).
Is it by design, or a bugette? I only ask, as i have used my MpegImport util recently whilst trying to get my HTPC working as a network client (the client wiped out the recording records in the DB), and it's picking up these MVP prefixed mpg files.
If it is by design then i'll add some exclusion support to the MpegImport util.
On a couple of occasions Ive been away from home and wanted to shedule a recording but couldnt as my pvr was on standby.
I spent some time looking at wol and found a few useful cmd line driven tools and 1 good website which allowed u to type in your mac address and send a wol packet.
I liked the website method as It meant you didnt have to download a small wol app so could use it in more places.
The web method meant I had to have the mac address details to hand all the time so I decided to put a very very basic website together to send the packets and contain a link to my pvr web admin page.
I imagine every one who needs such a thing will already have somthing setup but I thought Id post it in case anyone found it useful.
You need a web hosting service which has perl scripting enabled, my ISP dosent give me scripting for free so Im using http://www.freehostia.com and am quite happy with the service, and very happy with the price
Im no expert on wol over the internet but have managed to get it working so will answer what questions I can.
Anyway here is a zip of the site, if anyone is interested in "tarting" it up that would be great, maybe it will make a worth addition to the wiki...
I have an initial "home" page which links to the wake page which is under a different directory so I can set a login password, the wol packet is built with a very simple perl script, I also have a simple form for selecting multiple machines.
Anyway I hope someone finds it useful in some way.
