  How should ffwd/rew work?
Posted by: andydesheffield - 2006-05-23, 10:00 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Hello Everyone,
this is my first posting after moving to GB-PVR from Mythtv (Which I'd actually got sort of working but too many crashes)

I'm using a Pundit-r, and I gave up on Myth when ffwd and rev stopped working on my PVR350 out (after an upgrade), and I'd spent too may hours trying to get the alternative ATI tv out to work under Linux.
One thing that Myth did rather well (when it worked) was the variable ffwd/rev function (very high WAF)

Now I've moved (setting up GB-PVR was as a Sunday afternoon stroll is to a hike up Everest compared to setting up Mythtv), I'm having problems with the ffwd/rev functions

First of all I'm NOT using the PVR-350 out but the ATI integrated card
I've unchecked the ffwd = skip checkbox in setup
All the stuff below refers to recordings, not live tv.

When I press ffwd on the Hauppage remote it moves forwards at about the same speed as normal play. When I press reverse it does nothing unless I hold it down, when I get the odd frame going backwards.

Problem is: Having never used GBPVR before I'm not even sure how it is supposed to work.
I'm assuming that the ffwd and rev keys are sticky, and that I should be seeing a picture moving forwards or backwards at about 3x Normal speed until I press play?

I'm assuming that there is only 1 speed each way and to go faster I would use skip?
Skip seems to work fine apart from that
I thought that pressing "30 >|" on the remote should skip me forwards 30 mins but this doesn't seem to happen?

Could my problems be related to the codec that I'm using (Intervideo for Hauppage) ?
Thanks for any help. This is a great piece of software and I'll be clicking on the Paypal link as soon as I've got everything set up and working

separate coax booster or extending from STB
Posted by: stefan - 2006-05-23, 07:02 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

My STB has one input for coax, and one output. That way you can connect your rooftop to the box, and then on to the TV set. Or, in my case, on to my nova-t. I'm guessing that the STB has some sort of signal booster, but I'm not sure. Do you guys know if that's usually the case?

Would I be better off using a splitter/booster setup in front of my STB and connect the STB and the nova-t from the external splitter/booster?

System Rebuild -> Save Existing Config?
Posted by: Brian_W - 2006-05-23, 06:14 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

First time poster here, and new to GBPVR as of 96.12. Great program and loving it, even got the WAF pretty high after a week of nagging from fiddling with the initial config and setting it up. Then it all came crashing down when my Mobo decided to move onto bigger and better things. Sad So now I am going move my setup over to a faster computer I have sitting around. Can I just copy the folder structure of GBPVR to a temp drive, then format the new computer, install GBPVR, then copy the old folder structure back over and be good to go? (And yes, planning to retain the same drive letter assignments and partitions as before, I just want to save the DB and config files and the shows I already have recorded) Or if there is a better way to move an existing setup to a new machine while retaining all data, I would love to be educated Smile Looking forward to hanging out around here, great info in the forums.

Trouble with PureVideo and new release?
Posted by: 86atc250r - 2006-05-23, 05:19 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Great job with the new software, Sub, been enjoying the improved performance of the new SQLite database.

One problem I've had since the upgrade is my normally great picture quality has suddenly got a bit blurry during action and almost slow-mo looking, like it was before I upgraded to the PureVideo decoder & using hardware acceleration.

I've double checked my settings, and tried about everything - it's set to use the nVidia Decoder, but I do not believe it is ---- is there any way for sure to tell? When I play using WMP the video looks great again, I get the little icon in the tray that shows me settings and datarate - I can't honestly remember if GBPVR fires off the tray app normally or not when it is using purevideo -- currently, it is not.

I've also been getting a few misc unrelated errors now and then that don't seem to be service affecting - I won't bother anyone with those though until I get a chance to check over the forum and see if the topic has already been discussed.....

Here is my log - it almost seems as if maybe it's using different decoders for recorded video playback vs liveTV playback

  Deleting attachments from closed threads?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2006-05-23, 04:52 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

I have a couple of largish "GBPVR.log" ZIP attachments on (now) closed or (then) uneditable threads, which I would now like to delete (as others may wish to do too, through the USER Control Panel (USER CP)), so that I can make room for other attachments and also not clog up the system with "dead files", which lets face it, most the logs become after sub has had a look at them once :o

e.g. files on threads are here:

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...tcount=107
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post112271

Presumably Sub will "lay waste" (this expression jogged my memory from school waaay back, so many Latin words for "lay waste"!!) the threads at some stage, but is there any way to do this in the meantime?

  Three Problems with 977
Posted by: jtokach - 2006-05-23, 03:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Problem 1: Before 977 I had about 90 channels, now I have 250.

Problem 2: All of my recordings are now being stored in .\TV\Manual Recordings instead of .\TV\[show title]

Problem 3: I haven't been able to convert DB's. Has this issue been solved yet?

Thanks,

Jim

  Comskip help?
Posted by: nv40 - 2006-05-23, 12:54 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (2)

I recently had to do a clean install on my pvr box, and I can't remember a parameter that I altered in comskip.Comskip frequently cuts off the last second or two before a commercial on most of my prgrams, and then comes back to the program a second or two allready into it. There was something someone on here told me to modify that would add "padding" to the commercials, so that I could gain a second or two after a commercial starts before it skips. Anyone know how to do this, or unsure about what I m asking?

  Wiki Housekeeping.
Posted by: Fatman_do - 2006-05-22, 09:30 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (3)

With sub looking into other possibilities for webhosting, it seems like this would be a good time for some wiki housekeeping.

If Wiki posters could take some time ,when the opportunity arises, to review their own "attached files" for files that are obsolete.

There seems to be alot of unused files with no active links, taking up disk space (including site backups I am sure). Removal of these files might not mean much, but they may lower disk space costing requirements.

To get these files removed, PM Blader_se.

Just a thought on my part, thanks.
