Hi guys i've had this awesome program for a while now. And suddenly for a couple days now i havent been able to update my EPG causing my whole TV guide to be empty. I did a couple searchs and first off i use zap2it. I also tried the complete reload checkbox that one of the admins reccomended but every time i try to manually update the EPG (wont update normaly either) the update dialog box shows up for a good 10 seconds and then goes away. After i Check and still my tv guide is empty. Also i have no idea how to find a log of error:o
1. Ability to manually invoke the screensaver when video is paused. [I prefer pausing to stopping so I don't have to renavigate the listed recordings to get back to my video.] [During video playback there should be a host of unused buttons on the MVP remote!]
2. Ability to manually turn OFF the OSD (i.e. playback position, file info, clock, etc.) while video is paused (i.e. before the automatic timer does the same).
On my MVP, at least, paused video is always initially overlayed with a GBPVR-generated "darkening" mask (as part of the OSD) which makes it difficult to see what I am pausing to see!
My apologies if either of these features already exist -- in which case I also hope someone will point me in the right direction.
Does anyone have a way to control a media server through the lan by another computer?
I am specifically looking for a way to control the music playing on my media server (through the stereo attached to the server) with another computer on the lan. I would prefer to not use vnc, or a web server accessed through a browser. Ideally it would be a stand alone application on the client, that can show the playlist and mp3 library on the server. It doesnt have to be gbpvr based, but I do have gbpvr running on the server.
Just to let everyone know that Opera has released v2 of their "Opera Mini" cellphone browser, which works well on my cheap Panasonic x700 phone - their previous version generated an error when I tried to actually record a program using GB-PVR's web interface, but the new version works seamlessly.
I downloaded. I actually thought it was something more like ORB rather than something like GBPVR. It's nice--not a bad skin, loads up quickly, does a pretty good job with loading up channels, and the quality seemed nice. It also has some fun features like: yahoo videos being available to watch, movie trailers are well integrated... Will I switch? H**L NO!
I think that there was a discussion about a way how timeshift should work, but I can't find the thread. So will start new one.
1) I don't like the idea of use of EPG as a base for timeshift function. It's not convenient, sometimes even useless, when TV broadcast is delayed for any reason. As it is now, according to EPG new programme started and new file is open, but in real life the previous one didn't finish. Files don't match programmes.
Moreover, if you decide to record in timeshift mode, your programme will be divided, or even not fully recorded
Wouldn't it be better to have an option: EPG as a base or configurable buffer length?
2) Lest's consider situation when you don't have EPG for particular channel. The buffer length is 1 hour then. After 1st hour new temporary file is open and you can not jump between old and new one. That's limitation....
The only one good sentence I can tell about PowerCinema is its timeshift function. It's almost perfect. So, comparing to PowerCinema solution: the timeshift buffer consists there of several short mpeg temporary files (sum of them = buffer length), and you can easily navigate throughout them. When new file is created, the oldest one is deleted.
3) Timeshift and recording: as it is now when you press record button in timeshift mode current buffer will not be deleted in the future by RecordingService. Again, it can be convenient when all is based on EPG. Going back to PowerCinema and its perfect timeshift mode. When you press record button watching timeshifted programm, the MPEG stream is rewritten from temporary to target file, starting exactly from the point where you are now. And the target file is closed when you press record next time. I don't remember all aspects, probably pause is allowed during timeshifted recording but back and forward are not allowed.
4) Live preview and recording -in current Gbpvr version timeshift mode starts. I think it is better idea to start writing to file using Medium profile as it is default one. When you decide to finish recording you should return to live preview and close the file, instead of continuing timeshift mode.
Anyway, I didn't change my opinion that Gbpvr is a great TV/PVR application :-)
I was showing one of the other network administrators where I work the DVR that I am planning to build to compliment my new LCD projection screen (still drooling).
He has digital cable (makes more than I do) and is worried about getting channel 400 and up, and what equipment from Time Warner he will have to keep. I believe that he has a DVR unit and no other equipment right now. If he builds a DVR and gets the Time Warner DVR off his bill: 1.) Will they give him a digital tuner that sits between the wall jack and his PC?
2.) What tuner card should he buy. I need to ease his fears about not being able to get HBO on channel 4??.
I have a very good DVR deck for recording, and an old. and slow pc running GBPVR...It does not encode smootly .I have Dish with guide issues, so I want the guide from GBPVR and most of the other features, but would prefer to just record direct to dvd, I can set up the timers on everything, but would like to use GBPVR to do it all, My issue is that I cannot select from the guide, and issue commands to each device, dish and DVR, without having GB try to record to hard drive.
Is there a way? Am I missing something?
