Hopefully some one out there has a Gigabyte 6600 hooked up to an HDTV that can help me with an issue I am having. First of all, I used the supplied breakout pod to hook up the HDTV to the 6600 using component cables. I then inserted the new video card, turned on the power to the TV, and rebooted my system. At power up the VGA display was on both my monitor and the TV (although the TV was only grey shades).
I then installed the drivers and rebooted. At power up, a wizard ran that asked what mode my dual monitors should run in (clone, shared, or independent). I selected independent so that I could set up separate display resolutions for each. It then asked about the resolution of my monitor, which I set, and after changing the resolution on the monitor, I lost the display on the HDTV (grey background only). It did not ask about setting the resolution on the HDTV, and one of the dialog boxes said it was connected in S-Video mode, not component video. Also, when I try to adjust the display settings for the 2nd display (HDTV), I do not get the higher resolution choices associated with 1080i or 720p. The highest resolution available is 1024x768.
Has anyone here been able to get a 6600 card with the breakout cable to work with component video (1080i or 720p)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since the upgrade to 96.08 I've noticed that on occassion GBPVR will lock up when prompting for resume. After selecting a recording the first frame of the recording is displayed and the prompted dialog box is displayed but GBPVR hangs and I cannot select either resume or restart. This only happens sometimes, not always, and sometimes I can get out of it by hitting the back/exit button or the menu button on the remote. However, last night it was completely locked. This is having an undesireable effect on the WAF so I've disabled prompt for resume for the time being. I wasn't sure which logs would be useful so I've attached them all. My system:
GBPVR 96.08
VMR9
PVR-150
Radeon 9550
Intel 3.0 Ghz
1 Gb Ram
SATA 260Gb HD for E: audio/video
IDE 160 Gb HD for C:
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give.
Is it possible to add recordings from external sources and not from the EPG guide?
I need command switches to add recordings from a TVguide here in germany.
I´m using the externalrecorder plugin with gbpvr and adding recordings from the epg guide cost`s to much time,it would be nice if i could add recordings from an external tvguide.
Before I start programming I just wanted to know if someone else is working on it, or it already exist... Recording Conflict Resolution
Currently, If I schedule two programs and they conflict, I have the choice of killing one of the recordings.
I'd like to have a list of other times the two episodes also play, so then rather then cancelling one of the records, I defer one of them.
I'd have error checking to be sure that I didn't just create another conflict.
I'd probably start out by creating an Access Database front-end to test the logic. Then I could make a VB6 front end. Then I'd beg or grovel to have someone transcode to VB.NET.
Or I might bite the bullet and write an actual plug-in from scratch...
Anyway, I'm asking if it's out there already, because there's nothing worse then busting you butt for something that already exists...

Re: Adding switches to RenameRecording...
I know some people are gonna kill me, especially 'cause one of great things RenameRecording does is get rid of the unslighty string of numbers in the video file name, but...
When I have a directory with my recordings, after they are renamed to the epsiode names (with or without the main title) the file list may have the episodes out of order with regard to airdate...
Ideally I'd love to have season and episode numbers added to the string, but I know that would be next to impossible as that information is not in the gbpvr database.
The next best thing would be to have a date and/or time stamp switch which would insert somewhere in the filename something like 2006-03-10 or 2006-03-10 1900...
(Need the time too. Scrubs as an example is airing two new episodes a day...)
Or I suppose you could just leave the title alone, and just append the episode title..
Again, I know that that sort of goes against what you were doing with the program in the first place.
I'd just rather have my episodes listed in order of airdate, (and not by changing explorer's view by creation date attribute)
If it would be any help, I would document it all up for you... :-)
eg:
My Buddy's Booty.mpg
My Cabbage.mpg
or
Scrubs - My Buddy's Booty.mpg
Scrubs - My Cabbage.mpg
These will sort by file correctly:
2006-02-28-1900 - My Cabbage.mpg
2006-02-28-1930 - My Buddy's Booty.mpg
one thing i really like about the "Shut Down" plugin (i should since i added this....) is that it warns you if a recording is in progress or about to start before you shut down/restart etc.
so sub any chance you could add this to the "System" "@message" ?
I just bought one of these from Maplin and it works quite well. The supplied software is ArcSoft TotalMedia, which seemed clunky to me so I tried GB-PVR which is streets ahead...
Now the problem.... GB-PVR recognises the stick as a "FreecomDVB" which works fine for live TV. Recording aparrently works and produces big DVR-ms files, but they won't play back. GP-PVR produces the following message :
"Error: Failure playing back file"
Trying to open the recording in Windows Media Player results in a crash.
When exiting LiveTV or exiting a video, I simply get a black screen. The only way of escaping is to cntl-alt-delete and kill the gbpvr application. This issue is specific to the Intervideo Video Decoder only (other decoders work fine) and gbpvr version 96.8 (earlier versions are fine). I'm using VMR9.
Sub, in the config screen, where you can choose Comskip, ShowAnalyzer, or none for commercial detection:
Could you add to the list an item that indicates Comskip/ShowAnalyzer will be handled by PostProcessing bat, just to avoid confusion, please? I would imagine that, since you already have the logic, it would only be an asthetic thing, but it would help with the confusion factor.
List
None
Comskip
ShowAnalyzer
Commerical Detection handled in PostProcessing.bat
And while you're at it, maybe an edit button, that opens the postprocessing.bat in Notepad?
This might be way out of kilter, pie-in-the-sky sort of stuff, but having hung around here for a little while now, it would almost seem that at least 60% of the problems sub answers, he does so within a very short space of time, by simply looking at someone's logs and saying:
a. "you're missing a decoder"
b. "you're missing a mux file"
c. "you've selected the wrong card"
d. "You have no channel selected"
e. etc.
i.e. Stock Answers, even given the plethora of cards and combos of muxes and decoders that exist.
If sub can do that witjin 2 minutes by just looking at the logs, would it not then be possible to have the GBPVR program "look at the logs" and tell the user the same thing, automatically, so that user could be told to go off and
a. "Install a decoder. Start with installing the software that came with your Card, or Install a program like PowrDVD or WinDVD"
b. "you're missing a mux file. Start with installing the software that came with your Card, or Install a program like PowrDVD or WinDVD"
c. "you've selected the wrong card". For the PVR series, the Hauppage Tool sub recently posted can DETECT the card type, so could it not also tell the user, "hey silly billy, you selected the WRONG card, you have a PVR250, not a PVR150"
d. "You have no channel selected. Select one in Config".
e. etc.
saving sub billions of hours to develop the program further in the process :-) or are there simply too many ways those SIMPLE error types can be generated?
Perhaps even one of the way-out-there devleopers could write an error-code plugin be able to do this...
