I have a 100 meg switch and have just added a gigabit switch to my network, as i transfer large files between some machines on my network.
I put the GBPVR server onto the gigabit switch, and now the 2 MVPs (still on the 100 meg switch) come up with "Failed to locate GUI server". However I can connect to the internet from it (the router is connected to the 100 meg switch), so i know the connection from the 100 meg to the gigabit switch is ok.
I have read existing threads on the subject and it's as i thought, ie - it's only the subnet that should cause this problem. But, when i put the GBPVR server back on the 100 meg switch, all is fine again.
Is it simply a case of rebooting the switches to force them to clear out any tables they've built up in memory? Or is there something else going on here?
can i just buy the MCE remote $70 and use that?
but what happens when button mapping do some buttons not work.
will i be able to change the channels on both tuners twinhan dvb-s, PVR150MCE
or have i missed the boat completely and something else is a mych better remote.
also does the PVR150mce work on XP with GBPVR?
and instead of starting a new thread i will ask my MVP question here...
can you watch live tv in another room using the MVP and watch it on the GBPVR PC?
In my current setup I use a PVR-150 with GB-PVR. I have been satisfied with this combination, but now I find myself needing another tuner. Unfortunately I use a micro-atx motherboard in my computer and have all the slots filled. Right now I am looking at two options:
1. Pull the PVR-150 and upgrade to a PVR-500.
2. Get a WINTV-PVR-USB2.
Both options get me a second recording device and cost within $20 of each other. Is one option better than the other or are there other USB devices in the $125 range?
Here are my suggestions / wishes after using GB-PVR for about a month:
- search by show type (i.e. "movie" vs. "tv show"). The XSearch plugin is great for about all my other show-searching needs, but even with this I can't just see a list of all movies.
- resume recording after restart. Maybe this was just my setup, but when I had to restart my computer, I lost all of the show that was just recording. It resumed, but it didn't piece the full recording back together. (i.e. start recording at 3:00pm, restart at 3:15pm, recording restarts at 3:18pm - when I go to view the show, it would be great if it contained from 3:00 on, just missing the 3 minutes required to restart.)
- tooltip in the system tray icon to show what's recording (I know you can right-click the icon, then click on "Show status", but that's too freakin' difficult )
- aspect ratio change from a remote control. If there's an easy way for me to map this myself, I'd greatly appreciate it if someone told me how to do it.
- ability to skip show repeats (this info comes through on Zap2It, at least).
- ability to limit the number of rows shown at the same time on the TV guide (or ability to resize the font or magnify a listing on select with the remote). (I'm going blind with my tiny TV... )
- ability to watch live TV in other quality settings (low, custom, etc.). Maybe I just can't find where to do this...
- ability to save a search phrase, and get some kind of alert when shows that matched that alert came up (i.e. I've been wanting to tape "Office Space" off of normal TV for a while, so I can get a version without all the cursing. It would be great it I could just set this up as an alert - probably the Web admin would be the best place for this?).
I'm mostly being picky here. The software is great, and you can't beat the price Implementing these, IMHO, would make GBPVR absolutely perfect.
