  Resolutions & Ati Theater 550
Posted by: tomy12345 - 2005-06-11, 11:08 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

On the new GBPVR you can already set bitrates for this chip, but resolutions are not set, records are made at 720x480 no matter what resolution i choose. Is this a known problem with theater 550 or it's only a problem of mine? I happens on WinDVR too, only 720x480 is available.

Thanks in advance

  mvp + digisender question
Posted by: cadence - 2005-06-11, 08:30 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi,

I am currently setting up a gb-pvr setup. My configuration so far is;

Hardware

P III
256 Meg memory
Haupaugge 150
40 GB disk
Haupaugge MVP

The box I am using at the moment is a temporary box, as its both slow and has insufficent disk space. However it is sufficent ( I think) to prove out the configuration I am looking to setup.

Basically I have two questions.

1. Getting wireless TV signal to TV card.
2. Getting MVP talking to the GV-PVR box.

Question 1. Getting wireless TV signal to TV card.

I don't want to run coax around the house if possible. So I figured I could get a digisender and move the signal that way. As the digisender receiver as only a SCART output, I figured I needed a RF Modulator to convert the signal between SCART and coax. I have this done and it works.

However my problem is when I scan for signals ( using winTV - walking before I run !! ) I only see one channel.
I think the reason for this is as follows; I am taking the analog signal into a VCR, and then taking the SCART output from that and piping it to the digisender transmitter. I have verified that only the current channel being displayed on the VCR is transmitted by simply changing channel on the VCR and and signal on the PC changed too.
So I think I need to pipe the coax signal before it goes through the VCR. Now the reason I took it at this point is the digisender has a scart input.

Do I need another RF converter at the transmitter side ? Has anyone setup something similar..

2. Getting MVP talking to the GV-PVR box.

I am sorting out the tv signal at the moment, but have being thinking about this and would like some feedback.

Basically my network configuration is as follows;

broadband <-> wireless hub/firewall <-> internal network

Now the wireless hub/firewall ( A netgear WGT624 ) nats all traffic, and acts as a DHCP server.

My query is how the MVP will interact with this. I understand that it is a dhcp client, and will look for both dhcp, but am unsure of what happens with GB-PVR regarding providing DHCP.

Does GB-PVR act as a dhcp server for the MVP client ?

It may receive a dhcp lease from the firewall. If so, what happens at that point ?

Tks. ( excuse the longwinded ramblings ).

  Aspect Ratio
Posted by: Frederic113 - 2005-06-11, 06:09 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Here is an excerpt from Sub in a previous release:

Quote:- Added aspect ratio control for VMR7/VMR9. Press the F7 key to toggle between aspect ratios. Additional custom ratios can be added to config.xml if required.

I have modified config.xml so AspectRatio0 has my predefined settings.

However whenever I launch TV the aspect ratio is the default one not the one I set in AspectRatio0. To get my aspect Ratio I have to press the F7 key.

Bug or feature?

Thanks
Fred

  poor recorded display
Posted by: mattfaust - 2005-06-11, 05:56 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

hello all

Im having trouble with my recordings, however live tv looks great.
I have a pvr-250 and the mpg files are of great quality when veiwed through my network on my xp notebook.
playback is terrible if i open the files with media player on the gb-pvr machine.

It is running win2k, and I had to d/l a mpeg2 codec just to play the files on that machine.

Im assuming it is still a codec problem or possiblly a wrong decoder setting
I have a nvidia MX 420 card, any advise?

  UKTV Bright Ideas
Posted by: Darx-starz - 2005-06-11, 04:52 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I have installed a Nova-T 90002 and all is good. Except for UKTV Bright Ideas. I can see the channel in the small window in the Map Channels setup but when I try and make it stick in the mapping. It disapears when I select OK. However when I map another channel (say channel 4) that stays put. Any ideas?

  BigDish kills EPG
Posted by: rockhead - 2005-06-11, 03:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I have cable and a BUD (BigUglyDish). The channel naming format for 4DTV (big dish digital) consists of a character + digit for the satellite followed by three digits for the channel.

I suspect that this five (or six if there's a space) character channel name is killing the database or some related datahandler and causing the EPG to fail. I can set it up with my cable, no problem. When I add the satellite channels it tries to load and then says that it encountered an "error".

I would dearly like to be able to EPG record my (stupendous quality) big dish programming. Any suggestions ?

Thanks Glenn

  Symmetrical conflict resolution
Posted by: Trevor - 2005-06-11, 03:05 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

Frankly the current system of conflict resolution confuses the heck out of me.

If there are two shows that share a timeslot, GB-PVR appears to select one of the two versions of the show in conflict as the one to record, and display the other one in Recordings > Conflict. At the moment, this feels like it's arbitrary (but if there is a logic, first entry gets priority, alphabetical, I'd like to be enlightened).

Here's my request.

1) On the Conflicts screen, show both shows that conflict in a single cell, with two show titles on subsequent lines. Perhaps the first one listed is the one recorded and the second is the one that would not be.

2) On the subsequent "Resolve" screen, show *three* options:

Leave Conflict in Place
Cancel Show A
Cancel Show B

If there is a system to the conflict that I don't yet understand, enlighten me. Or should I just upgrade to RecordX and be done with it?

Thanks for your time!
