Have been working on a music plugin for my own use and thought why not post it so anyone can use it if they wish too Smile

I made it so it would play music in a way I like to listen to it. But I'm very interested in adding features if thats what people want. Also if you find a bug or have a problem please post and I will do my best to help.

Current features
  • Play all by a particular artist
  • Play whole album
  • Shuffle play of artist or album
  • Global party shuffle (like iTunes)
  • Copy to external drive (I use this to copy music to a SE K750 but should work for any MP3 player that acts as an external drive
  • Album art (folder.jpg)
  • Skin.xml for the default blue skin
...

Note
As I'm an iTunes user my MP3s are stored by Artist\Album\Title and this is how AMP works. AMP DOES NOT READ ID3 TAGS, it only works with this directory structure (sorry).

AMP has 2 config options; MusicPath (root of your music files eg "c:\My Music") and PlayerPath (optional-path to an external MP3 player eg "D:\audio").

tipstir Wrote:Wow! Sounds cool!

So let me see, your saying I can use my mobile MP3 player and connect to this plugin also on top of the PCs that store all my mp3 music. But as I can see you are only using C:\MY Music can I use network drive or MY Documents\MY Music instead?

And you're skin it to make it easy to skin,, if that's so I'll add it to the next XMedia DX Skin theme release..
Having trouble understanding your questions :confused: but will try and answer anyway. lol.

It dosn't play music from an MP3 player. When you select an artist,album or song you can choose to send it to a path (an MP3 player/drive).

You really are the skinning guy tipstir lol. Layout and colours are all off whatever the current skin is. Not to hot on skinning stuff but don't see why you cant edit it. Smile

Oh and "C:\MyMusic" was just an example. It can be any path you want. Not sure about network paths tho, never tried to be honest.

i dropped it in to have a look see. The only thing is I get an error box saying i don't have any mp3's. They're in the same directory used by all the other plug ins so i know they are there. I wonder if it would be possible to just use the config setting for music that is already in the config file. Either way any idea on why it might not be seeing my mp3 files?

i use a genra\artist\album\song directory structure but even if i set the config to one directory that does in fact have mp3 files instead of other directories it doesn't see them.

I wasnt aware of the built in music path config when I started writing it, may change it to use this. Would only look at the 1st path as it really does rely on an Artist\Album\Songs directory structure.

With you having genre 1st I suspect its not likieing it and thats why your getting the error msg. Going on what you said I would think its just following the directory structure and looking for songs in the artist folder. Try setting the config path to point to a genre, obv this is not very useful but at least then you could try it out if you wish to. Smile

Hmmm, i tried changing the path to a directory that has mp3's in it as opposed to subdirectorys. No luck still get the mo mp3 files error box.

The config path is just a pointer to the start of a artist\album\song directory structure. It only looks for mp3s in the album folder. This is how iTunes setup my directory so I wrote AMP to use this.

If you are looking for feature requests, maybe you could make the nested directory structure configurable. Let's say there are three catagories, genre, artist, ablum. Let the user pick the order of the directory.

Example 1:
Base=c:\My Music
Level1=genre
Level2=artist
Level3=album

Resulting in c:\My Music\<genre>\<artist>\<album>\song

Example2:
Base=d:
Level1=artist
Level2=album
Level3=

Resulting in d:\<artist>\<album>\song

This might help resolve some of the folder compliance issues. ??

Certinally an idea ggee.

Could have a tick box if genres are used. Question is would a user want to view by genre as this would require an extra level? If not browsing by genre the genres could simply be reccursed to look for artist folders.

Hmm, will look into it.
