Hi

It would be good if gbpvr could detect duplicates based on an exact match of the program description from the xml epg data.

In the UK, some freeview programs are repeated very frequently, sometimes several times a day.

This approach would not be reliable enough to use. A large percentage of shows just have generic names and descriptions.

True, certain programs (such as the news) have duplicate details.

Currently I rely on rectracker to (hopefully) remove duplicate entires once they have been recorded. However, this is rather wasteful of system resources - recording a number of programs, only to delete them. Some of the Freeview channels can repeat a program 2 or three times a day.

For Freeview users, it would be good to have a config parameter that says "do not record program with identical details" or possibly even "do not record program with identical details to another program recorded in the last (24?) hours"

If people enabled this feature, they would have to live with the possibility of loosing recordings with the same description. However, scanning the UK listings, I cannot find any other programs (other than the news) that have the same programme details listed on the same day.

Thanks Sub

Sorry, I wont be implementing this feature.

Over here they tend to use these generic descriptions for a lot of shows. Even things like friends only ends up with the same description for each episode.
