Shows video for couple secs and then 'looses it'

I'm sure I've read about something similar on here but I'm having a problem when I plugin my VCR to the composite input on my ATI 550 pro.

I've setup a manual channel for it as said in a PS2 thread I found.

The rub is it shows the video for a couple seconds (in full colour) perfectly fine and then seems to loose it and then just show multi-coloured static. Changing to another channel and then changing back to the vcr the samething happens (good for 2 secs and then gone)

Does the same thing in Virtual Dub too.

Any thoughts? :mad:

have you tried this with more then one tape? try it witha VHS thats more then 10 years old and one that not a retail movie

I've had problems in the past where copy protection has mucked up stuff like this.

Yeah, you're probably right. It does sound like macrovision.

I think you may be right. djgietzen. Only does it on newer retail videos.

Do you no much about captureing from video. I want to get a wedding video onto the computer. Im getting the "Top-Screen Tearing" problem as written about here.

"3) Top-Screen Tearing: This is another timing error of an analog tape, causing the top 10 to 25 percent of the image to be distorted. The best way to fix this is by using the DNR/TBC on an S-VHS VCR. Also try it in several VCRs, as the deck can cause this error too. Stabilizers (like ones built into JVC units) may help. A standalone TBC may help. If none of these options fix it, then you will have to crop it out, using the same method described for pinking/greening."
