Hi All - Thanks for your help in getting my new MVP connected yesterday.

I'm connected to the server, have access to all menues, can see the existing catalog of recordings, I can even browse the guide and schedule new recordings...

BUT, I can't see video of any kind - no previous recording, no live TV, etc.

Set-up: Lastest GBPVR software (which is working fine & playing video on the computer monitor). MVP was plugged in and NO Hauppauge software was installed.

I've read that I installing the Hauppauge MVP software will install some stuff that's needed by the MVP, BUT I've also read that none of the Hauppauge software is needed. I do have the latest decoder files off the Hauppauge support site which I used to the the computer-only video to play.

So what next friends?

If you're trying to play an .AVI or .WMV files, then the Hauppauge software is needed.

What kind of file does GBPVR create normally? If it's one of the above two, I guess that's my answer!

I was hoping to just be able to load the needed "components" so as to keep all the extra Hauppauge software stuff out of my system...

If you record with a analog device like a Hauppauge PVR150 etc, it'll create an .mpg file. A small number of devices (Plextor PX-TV402U etc) will produce .avi files (or .mpg if configured). The BDA devices will produce either .dvr-ms or .mpg depending on how you have it configured.

Ok - My pvr 150 is creating mpeg files - I checked the drive itself to confirm. so, I'm not sure of the nesxt step.

to recap.
#1 clean XP install with all updates, clean (latest) gbpvr install, installed drivers, remote, and video decoder files from hauppauge's support site.

#2 ran, recorded, played GBPVR perfectly for a week w/ display on computer monitor. (still works on host PC.)

#3 plugged MVP into network switch and (after a little help from the gang here) got the connection stable with full use of menus, recording functionality, etc.

However, I can not play video - not recorded, time shifted, or live.

Any ideas? I'm thinking the MVP is missing something it needs to play the MPEG video. But what?

Page http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/MVP#toc says "NOTE: The Hauppauge MVP software does NOT actually even need to be installed."

Thanks in advance Sub...

Can you zip and attach your gbpvr.exe.log file?

Hi Scott

I've got exactly the same situation - did you find a solution ?

In case it helps here are two extracts from gbpvr.exe.log (The first relates to LiveTV and the second to playing a previously recorded mpg)

Any help gratefully appreciated - Thanks, Jimmy Smile

My MediaMVP was secondhand from the US on eBay - I love in "PAL land" in Ireland. The situation described above, where all video fails for not particular reason and with no helpfull error message was solved as follows :-

I installed the Hauppauge software that came with my MediaMVP, when into the config menu and changed the video option from NTSC to PAL. Note that you have to press the Green button to apply the change. Otherwise the menu option changes but the device still refuses to play PAL mpg files.

Looking forward to using this now. Hope this helps someone !

glad you got that fixed. I also noticed (within the hauppuage settings screen throught the MVP) that there is a vide enable/disable setting. My new MVP came with video enabled, but if anyone bought a used one with video diabled I expect that would cause a similiar problem to your PAL issue.

Regarding my issue - Sub didn't see anything wrong in my log, so I decided to install the huappuage mvp software (beta version from there site) to see if the box worked at all (through GBPVR I was getting all menus but no video).

The MVP (Hauppauge's software) worked great! Beautiful picture, very fast changes - perfect - except no GBPVR interface. Overlapping services somehow allowed me to then grab a GBPVR screen from somewhere and play video (much slower changes between menues interestingly) but video died when I tried to fast forward.

I've since disbled the two hauppauge MVP services in win XP, restarted and recycled MVP - but now it just sits forever at "loading application." I suspect that I don't have a "dhcp" server in my router or something like that - or my doongle needs to be upgraded. I've got to do some more reading before I figure out what those things actually mean, but at least I know the mvp box works...

If nothing else, I can always just use the mvp software to play gbpvr files and wait for a version of GBpvr that has fixed the dongle and maybe includes a dhcp server... I suspect I'm a bit older than some of you guys and this non-experimental path appeals to me even if I'll miss the interface for ahwhile!:o

I'm glad you got your issue sorted out!
