Hi everyone,

I just built a dedicated gbpvr server out of some bits I had lying around, spec as follows:

Athlon 3200 XP - Asus nForce board with NIC disabled.
750 MB Ram
40GB disk for OS
80GB disk for recordings
3com 10/100 PCI NIC - thought this might be superior to the onboard NIC.
2 x PCI Nova-T - bought these for the job
Windows XP Professional SP2
Tipsir's Networking reg hacks applied.

The problems I'm having are with the MVP. Sometimes it just crashes. Sometimes it plays back livetv fine, other times the picture breaks up constantly. Sometimes it responds to the remote control, other times it doesnt.

Is there a firmware upgrade availible for MVP? Mine is model 86002 rev d3.

I've trawled around this board for a while now and have applied most of the MVP optimisations I can find but these probelms still persist.

Before I lose what hair I have left, can anyone shed some light on what might be causing my MVP malaise. I was hoping to replace my sky+ with GBPVR & MVP but livetv just wont do anything consistant for me.

Other questions I have are:

Is there a guide that will show you exactly what remote button does what during playback of both recordings and live tv?

The MVP displays a 16:9 picture on my 4:3 tv. Is there anyway to have it adjust the picture for a 4:3 telly - i'm missing the edges of the picture.

Do others out there use mvp livetv for their daily viewing? If not, what do you use? A regular set top box? I was hoping to avoid this as my wife complains about the number of remotes we have already.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You might want to do some investigation on "rev D3" afaik there where problems with that particular rev. Did you apply all Tipstirs hacks rightaway or one by one, testing in the meantime.
What dongle.bin are you using? I use the 22-03-2005 version, I tried a newer one but had problems then.
I take it your networkcable is made with the colors in the right order.
Succes!!!!
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Hi, I have an MVP and Sky+, however I only use MVP with GBPVR for MyMusic and the odd video I have downloaded. Whilst I think GBPVR is great there is no way I would consider it replacing Sky+.

If you are looking for a cheap way to PVR FreeView channels you can buy £99 Freeview PVRs in Tesco. Not sure how good they are but they must do a job.

I use my MVP on a wireless network and it is just too inconsisitent at this moment in time for me to consider it mainstream. My wife already thinks she lives in a technological jungle and that would tip her over the edge!

Anyway its a good idea so let us know how you go.

Cheers

Alan
