Since moving to the PCH A100, I really miss the WOL feature that I had with the MVP. I have to keep manually starting my GBPVR PC from stand-by when I want to use the PCH. Are step-by-step instructions on how to get the PCH A100 to wake (using WOL or anything else) the GBPVR PC posted anywhere? I couldn't find any.

Thanks.

There's a bit of info in this thread, http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...MT-and-WOL but I guess nothing on the wiki yet. I load mvpmcx2 from an always on share but you could do this from USB too.

The MVP doesn't support WOL. I added WOL support in mvpmc, but if the power is turned off on your MVP it wouldn't start your PC, and you always need to enter emulation mode once. The NMT implementation is actually more consistent.

The steps here (a link off the thread that Martin called up) http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post340254 are pretty good.

Quote:modify the share based scripts as follows

1 - copy ether-wake into the mvpmc folder
2 - add this <line> after the utelnetd copy <line in your script>
cp /etc/mvpmc/ether-wake /usr/bin
3 - before the killall gaya <line in your script> run (using your MAC address)
ether-wake 00:00:00:00:00

To keep this all together the optional and unsupported binary is here http://www.mvpmc.org/~mvallevand/ether-wake.zip

Yes, I should have added in my original post that I was using the MVP with your mvpmc dongle!

As it turns out, after a few hours of reading the posts in the thread you and jksmurf recommended and experimenting, I'm happy to report that my A100 is now waking my GBPVR PC (when I call on it and it is in Standby)!!

So much for my exercise routine of running up and down the stairs. Big Grin

Thanks, Martin and jksmurf.

Man I hate trying to find stuff NMT related in this sodding forum!!! Sorry rant now over (I think)

"If " I can figure this out I will "yet again" add it to the wiki (where are the others adding NMT stuff to the wiki??)

(Note to self for later reference: link to either-wake the optional and unsupported binary is here http://www.mvpmc.org/~mvallevand/ether-wake.zip

Are those instructions above still correct for a NextPVR setup running from a USB stick? And "<line in your script>" would be which script??

It was a general rant <grin>. Waking the server isn't even for me as I tried years ago & my stupid server keeps forgetting it has SATA drives connected after waking up (although I did read something about curing that the other day). I had an inquire from one of the users (that I owe a large number of favors to) I try to help out & just wanted to be able to point him in the right direction quickly & easily without having to spend heaps of my own time trying stuff out first.... alas it's not to be as I know he is also going to want multi-server index.htm files for USB share & while I wrote some of those for another user years ago I never uploaded them to the wiki & I'm not sure exactly where my copies are now Sad

Possibly of interest is the fact that Martin added the option to delay the timeout of mvpmcx2 for a server that takes too long to wake up.
--em-wolwt 45 is the command tail that I use for coming out of hibernate.

Well I guess as I have got 75% what I was asking about I really should say 75% thank you both for the information...... Wink

From the information supplied I'm sure "I" can get it figured out & up and running, but what I really wanted was exactly what the title of this thread asked for "step by step instruction" that I could just pass on to someone with very little knowledge & also copy & paste into the NMT wiki page.... oh well sometime in the future when & if I get time......

I don't think it will ever be an easy, reproducible thing to do.

Too many variables (share, internal drive, usb stick)
Needs manual editing of scripts with a unix style editor.
Will probably get stomped on if the installer is used.
Not supported.

"if only" the PCH software was a little more open, then these things would be easy(er)

The problem is the solution for USB is very simple when you you know what your doing

1 - copy ether-wake into the folder that has mvpmcx2 (do this on the host PC)
2 - before the "killall gaya" line in usb_a.cgi add the following line (using your NextPVR server's MAC address not zeroes) with a linux editor.

/etc/mvpmc/ether-wake 00:00:00:00:00

I like martin123's option of adding --em-wolwt 45 in smartmeup
