When I use Hauppauges WinTV to record, I get decent quality for my kids stuff using the MPEG1 VCD setting. (1/2 show takes about 300MB)
I can't seem to get a decent recording using the GBPVR software unless I use a normal setting. 1/2 hr show is 1GB - this is like an MPEG2 full screen bit rate/resolution.

I havent played around too much....since its the same hardware, there ought to be a way to make it work. I tried a custom setting for the recording quality but it didnt work well, the quality was really bad. I *REALLY* like the GBPVR recording and scheduling software better than than the Hauppague stuff.

Does anyone record MPEG1 (320x240) with this software and get about 300MB per half hour? I play it back thru Haupauge MediaMVP on a 13" TV and it works fine.

Thanks

You can, but the question is why?
Are you that short of space?
You can never have enough tuners!

Well, I have space now because I cleared alot of stuff out. I have about 500GB over 5 disks. On one disk, I have
22 < 1GB .mpg files
11 > 2GB (2-5GB) .mpg files
all movies I captured from TV.

Those 11 .mpgs take up the space of 30 .mpgs at <1GB. My kids cant really tell the difference - its close to VHS quality anyway.....

Its pretty much a waste of space. When something comes on that I want to record at DVD quality, I change the settings for that one.

I haven't had time to play around with it, so I thought someone else who has done can either
(a) confirm it works
(b) maybe tell me what settings to use

Thanks for the comment
