Hi Everyone,
I was using GBPVR with basic analog TV for 3 months now, and everything was working great. I recently move to NTL digital, which offer more channels. EPG is working fine, and I'm using the red-eye to control the STB. I am using the composite input of my PVR150.

My only problem is that the sound from the STB goes through the Line In of my Sound card, and GBPVR does not mute it when using the Timeshifting mode (I still hear the live sound, instead of the shifted one).
Can GBPVR mute Line-IN when going to timeshifting mode, and un-mute as soon as the program is back to Live TV?
In other words, can GBPVR control the Line-in Mute option? If not, how does users work around this, when using a STB and Line-In?

Thanks,
Yann

This is the first time I've ever seen this one requested.

No, there is no option to do this.

Why are you doing this? I've never heard of anyone connecting their STB to the line-in on their soundcard.

Hi Sub,
When I was using the internal Tuner, I didn't have any problems.
Now that I'm using the STB, I have 3 signals that I need to connect to the PC, video composite, audio left and audio right (all rca connector). For the audio, I convert the rca to jack, and then it goes to the PC Line-In. the video composite goes to the video in of my PVR150.
I thought it was the usual way to do this, but apparently it's not :-)

I don't remember if the PVR150 has an audio input...I will try this instead.
Thanks for the hint.

You should be using the audio input on the PVR150. You need to get a 2xRCA to stereo jack converter plug.

Indeed, it works much better using the audio input of the PVR150...I forgot about it!!

Thanks,

I actually have some info to add and a question to ask at the same time.

Until this afternoon I have been set up exactly how bibi has decribed. I had come to the conclusion, after much internet reading on the topic, that using line-in on your sound card was the way to go, the general rationale being that it's best to share resources if you have the hardware in there anyway. Other reasons having to do with, the fact that hardware designed to do a more specific job generally is going to do it better than an integrated situation. Besides the obvious reasons, it really comes down to physical space restraints...anyway.

Now keep in mind that I used to think it made much more sense for sync issues to have as much going on in "familiar" territory as possible, and I think going that way worked well for me for quite some time. I can't remember what happened or what it was that I was trying to do, but I was prompted to do the research I described above.

I was skeptical, because I thought it was going to create all sorts of sync issues. To my surprise it did not! Well if it ever did it it was just a hair out, and so unoticable that it might not have even existed, because everyone else that looked at it thought I was crazy...and they might be right because now I swear I see a delay when I'm just watching regular old TV sans PC...ha.

So, I had a WinTV Go, on a 1.4GHz 256MB machine, crappy onboard audio, and the audio (with the very same cable he has) from sat connected to line-in on audio card. I was worried when I first started using gbpvr for the pvr piece, that I would have to find some cleaver way to mute and unmute the line in as I went in and out of LiveTV. But I just wanted to see it work, and much to my surprise (had line-in muted going in to livetv the first time) gbpvr or the wintv drivers or something took the libery of unmuting the line-in...and get this when I left LiveTV it muted it for me once again. I had to do nothing.

I was tickeled pink! BUT (always one of thoes), today I installed the PVR150..picture looks soooooo much better, yet I guess I just can't win...now the audio is out of sync from the start of viewing LiveTV, and when I exit LiveTV there is no remute (and no unmute coming in either had to do it myself).

I've switched from the Software Encoder Recorder to the Direct Recording. The thing I noticed is that in the Software encoder there was a drop down box where you could select where the audio is coming from (could select the card in a drop down had 3 to choose from: onboard, wintv, quickcam, picked onboard and line-in next to that)...and like I said before it worked like a charm for me! The Direct Recording plug-in had no such thing that I can see. Now to be fair I just got the thing today, so I've not had a chance to devleve back in and now read all the posts more specific to my new hardware, so I'm sorry if I'm missing something here, but I have read quite a few and this one really caught my eye, especially considering the solution that was given which was just to switch to the line-in on the pvr150.

This leads me to the problem with relying on the line-in on your video card. Not to metion what I talked about above with the better hardware on the stand alone card...the real probem is that, I would then not be able to do what I was planning on doing...which as far as I can tell would have worked with the set up I had this morning. My DTivo has optical out which I have running directly to a reciever right now...what if I wanted to run my optical out from dtivo to optical in on sound card (there are a few out there that have it yes.) and then have it spit back out on the optical out to the reciever. GB-PVR or some drivers or something must allow that to happen...because it was happening for me before and it's not now.

So does anyone have any clues?
