red eye serial

hi folks,

I've just got myself a red eye serial cable. The demo program works but I can't get the command line tool for changing chanels to work... it keeps telling me "error opening com1" - I've tried this on two separate machines using both variants of the tool and both times I get the same.

I've tried changing the com port number to 5 and still the same. My com port settings are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, parity none, stop bits 1, flow control none.
FIFO buffers ticked and both receive and transmit to high. No conflicts either.

Any ideas?

ok I admit it... I'm a plonker. After changing to com5 I forgot to close the demo app down. Retried it after that and it worked fine.

Still puzzled why I had to shift it off com5 though - any ideas on that one?
