Hi all, not sure if this is the correct forum to post this, but..

I have a pretty basic serial port IR blaster that I was using under Linux (with mythv and LIRC) for a long time, but have since moved into the Windows world. I've tried WinLIRC for it, and it sometimes works.. sometimes doesn't. Is there any other software that would work for this device? I've made a simple VB program to change the channels with WinLIRC, but it appears WinLIRC is the actual culprit. It seems the serial port "crashes" after 2-3 commands and then requires a reboot.

Barring that, would anyone have any suggestions of something that WOULD work?? I've heard the USB-UIRT things work well, but I really don't want to pay $50+ for something that just sends IR! I have no need for a IR reciever, got a ATI remote wonder for that.

Hope someone can help Smile

You can try HIP.

I've tried HIP, but there doesn't seem to be a plugin that supports it.. can you offer me any pointers on how to config it? Smile

The settop box is a motorola DCT2000, btw.

I don't know what type of device you have.
Have you tried adjusting the buadrate on the serial port for winlirc?

On hip you can try the generic device or you would probably have better luck on their forums.

oh, and yes I've tried adjusting the baud rate, the 8-N-1 settings, etc., nothing seems to work very well. It will still "crash" every few commands. Worked fine w/ lirc under linux, so my guess is WinLIRC just doesn't like the damn thing.

here's my winlirc (taken from lirc) config if it helps..

irblaster.info sells two devices (but they don't announce it so you can find the info easy); one for linux and one for windows machines... That said, I don't know whether that would solve anything.

that's the one I have.. it's basically just a cable with a IR at the end and a db-9 connector at the other. It's about as dumb as they get.. no real processing Smile.

Yeah, I know, that's the one I bought, which he later stated was not intended for windows. Don't know what the difference is between them, though. They look the same. DIfferent resistance?
