gEd Wrote:oh, i'm still a bit worried about the fact that you can't remove the 150 - this shouldn;t happen at all. In all the years that I have been building and modding pcs, I have never had a pci card get stuck. I would investigate this further.

Also, do you have the card installed next to the graphics card? Perhaps try installing the 150 on the bottom slot/away from fans and other components.

if you have a fan near the 150, try stopping it for a few secs to see if this affects image quality.

just trying to think of what else it could be as it would be a pity for you to buy a new suppy only to find that it makes no difference (although having a hq suppy is never a bad thing)

I dont have an actual dedicated graphics card. Its more of an integrated Intel graphics chipset thingie. I only have 3 pci slots and one was already taken, so I just popped in the 150 near it. Its not that close to the fan anyway.

I had a little trouble getting the card in, but now I just cant seem to get it out anymore. It wont move!

oh dear....

Have you tried viewing a recording (that you have made) on a different pc to make sure that it is not the graphics chip that is generating the interference?

I'm goign to agree now that it's worth following through on this before doing the power supply. If you can remove other cards easily, and this one is stuck, there's something wrong that could be causing a problem, too. If you've bent or flattened a connection in the slot, it may not pass a good signal or the right amount of power.

If you have an support option for this system, it would be worth using it.

One additional thing ive noticed is that it tends to be local canadian channels that are bad, whilst channels like CNN and FOx are reasonably good.

Could it be that the signal actually *is* bad? Do you have another tv set to watch it on to see if you get the interference there?

On the TV, the signal is fine. Its on my computer that I get the colored lines all over when viewing some channels.

Been toying with the idea of replacing my 200watt power supply used in my Compaq Presario 6410NX. Been all over the Web and can't locate the correct configuration for my PC. I did manage to find a direct replacement @200watts from a company called "Power-On" they list the following specs (Micro ATX power supply is a 200W, PS3 Form Factor) OK, that means nothing to me. I am looking for 350/450 watts.

Anyone have any advice on a site/company, where I could find a power supply upgrade. Or is it simpler than I am making it!! (usually is, I tend to over think things).

Thanks

They are all pretty much the same, unless your case is an odd configuration (eg, a silverstone micro) that will only fit a certain size.

You could always check the dimensions of your current one against common 300+ units. You can also just got to a store that you can eaily return to, buy one, and find out one way or the other (even circuit city sells them now)

compaq (who were aquired by hp) kit often used proprietary hardware so you may not be able to just throw in any old supply.
It appears you can only use a supply that is a PS3 form factor. This is a spec that defines the dimensions, mounting points, connectors and power requirements for the supply.

I would expect the supply that you have to be able to cope with all the standard components that you could throw in that box, that would be how compaq/hp would have spec'ed it.

here is a 250watt'er

any particular reason that you wanted 350+ watts? I would have thought that you would only need this if you were overclocking or planned to install a beafy AGP video card.

Presently I have in the box:
- AMD ATHLON 2000XP 512MB
- PVR 150
- wireless PCI adapter
- 2 - disk drives
- CD/DVD drive
- cheap AGP graphics card - ASUS ATI7000 32MB (looking to upgrade too NVIDEO5200 - they recommend a 250 watt PS. lousy TV video
- possibly a better sound card, presently sound on motherboard.

Perhaps 350/450 watts is a bit much, thanks for the EBAY link, looks like a good inexpensive uprade.

It should be noted the box is 2/3 years old, always left on (running GBPVR) we also get a lot of power glitches/brownouts etc.

I guess I'm thinking a new PS wouldn't hurt!!
