Hello all. In advance I want to thank all the programmers who have put so much into this. My friends and family are amazed at what my system can do with your help.

My GB-PVR system recently failed. I have a second computer that just runs as a media server. Basically, after two years of running, the harddrive failed. It was a Maxtor drive. I have to buy a new drive and start all over again.

I did not purchase another Maxtor drive, but I did get a standard drive (not something that is made specifically for Servers or anything). The price differential was just too much.

What I would like to do is have my unit on during certain hours and off during others, without me having to do anything. I realized that I was doing very little recording during the day, so it would be better if my unit were off so that the harddrive was getting a rest. I think it was the 24 hour rotation that ultimately fried it.

Does anyone know how to do this? If I am posting in th wrong area, I apologize. I am sure someone else has run into this tye of problem since we are basically running 24 hour servers with laymans materials.

Thanks!

just config your windows box to go into standby or hibernation (i have set mine to hibernate after 20 min of inactivity).
gbpvr will wake up your compy when a scheduled recording is about to beginn or e.g. for epg-update.

wake-on-lan does work for me too. funny: i do not have to send a magic packet... a ping or an http-request, and it wakes up.
i do not know why this is the case, though (its an elderly 3com NIC).

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Thanks betlit, I will try that. I am going with the portable/laptop defaults to test, which is monitor off in 15 min; hard drive off is 30 min; system standby in 20 min. I am going to schedule a recording for an hour from now to see if it wakes up.

Thanks
