What do I need to get GBPVR to wake up to record a show?
My pc goes to hibernate after 20 minutes. I set a recording but GBPVR didn't wake up to record a show. Do I need additional files?

normally there should be no problem waking up from hibernate or standby, no additional files required.

You may test it again and/or you may test if the windows scheduler is able to wake up the pc (which is the same way as gbpvr wakes it up).

It should work just out of the box.
GBPVR just tells Windows when to wake the PC up. As suggested, try make sure the Windows scheduler works or not and have a look around the BIOS to see if there is anything in there that looks odd round the power settings.

Make sure when testing that you leave plenty of time between events (30 mins should do) or Windows seems to anticipate things coming up! I found that manually hibernating the machine sometimes caused problems, but just letting power saving drop it into hibernate has been working for years for me.

there's a program wakeonsuspend [wosb] that can specifically set the wake up time if you can't get gb to do it right...[at least you'll know it was set before sleep]
if still can't get it to wake, may be bios settings...

In XP, my system was set to sleep and recorded without the machine even waking (never could figure that out). Had problems in Vista but so far in W7, things are good. I've never, ever used hibernate as I've had problems but sleep works well for me.
I've found the BIOS to be more helpful in fixing things for me and if one's available, I'd flash the BIOS to the latest one as a start.

Check your BIOS settings, is ACPI enabled? RTC Resume also? Some BIOS are very temperamental, and enjoy using reverse psychology: enabling, disables it; disabling, enables it. Change one setting at a time and different settings Big Grin

In my case, I was using an old P4 cpu+board I had lying around, as backbone for my htpc and had trouble setting that up. Until I discovered that I was activating the RTC setting that specified when the PC should wake up. That setting would take priority above whatever GBPVR tried to impose. Once I disabled the RTC setting of date/hour (leaving ACPI support enabled) I got flawless hibernation/wake up behaviour. Nowadays I only reboot perhaps once every two weeks, to clear things up.

I've read here before that if you put the system to sleep manually after setting a recording then windows doesn't have time to schedule the wakeup.
When you set the recording did you let the machine go to sleep on it's own? Or did you put it to sleep yourself?

I found out what the problem was. Apparently I had my pc set to Hibernate after 15 minutes. Which I guess GBPVR doesn't like. So I then decided to switch it to 20 minutes and now the pc wakes up properly to record.

Just for reference, I found this article helpful in configuring my GBPVR server.

It's not specific to GBPVR, but it explains how things are supposed to work when you're running Vista or Win 7 on a motherboard that supports ACPI.

I can't see it being that in general - I have mine hibernating at 5 minutes and it has always woken up.
