Sounds stops after stopping a recording

It seems that very often when I stop a recording, sound will fail to work in any application unless I reboot the computer.

Also, the internet doesn't seem to work either, because Firefox and Internet Explorer won't open any webpages.

I'm using the Intervideo codecs for MPEG-2 playback.

I've also tried restarting the Windows Audio Service, but to no avail. And the Audio Properties window acts like my Vinyl AC'97 drivers aren't responding.

I dont know. I've not heard of anyone else with this problem. Must be something funny in your setup.

Hmmm...

Do you know where a good place to ask about this would be? I might have caused the problem with other applications as well.
