playing wmv on mvp

To play wmv files on the mvp do i need to have the hauppauge software installed?
I have no problem playing avi files using ffmpeg but when i try to play a wmv file the mvp looses connection.

Yes, you need the Hauppauge software for WMV playback.

I've installed the Hauppauge software ( and stopped it so MVPs can see GBPVR server). When I try to play a WMV file the MVP just reboots.
Is there any configuration to do ?

If it needs investigating I think I will first upgrade to the latest version before taking up you time as I'm still running old software ( 96.08 ).
If I have probs with the latest version I'll post again.
