I have recently purchased an RCA universal learning remote to replace my TV, VCR (hardly used since building PVR of course!), A/V component, and Hauppauge remotes.
The remote operates beautifully when controlling any device for which the remote is capable of using a pre-programmed manufacturer code.
Arguably Hauppauge remotes are not the most abundant in the world, so I was pleased to be able to use the learning feature of the remote to reproduce the Hauppauge commands.
However I have found that, comparing the Hauppauge 45-button remote that came with my PVR 250, there is a noticeable delay on the universal remote between button press and the device's response resumably while the remote looks up the learned command.
The solution I am thinking about is to purchase a USB UIRT and train it on one of the native (not trained/learned) command sets in the remote. Given that speed is of the essence, I am wondering if anyone who uses one can verify it is exactly as fast as a native Hauppauge remote with the remote sensor plugged into the back of the PVR 250 card.
(Or if anyone has a better recommendation of course.)
