CallerID question?

If you follow the GPL you should be allowed to post it (I'm not a lawyer so don't take my word for it). I guess the author just got bored and moved on to other things. Happens alot with open source projects.

If you are fairly confident that you've followed the GPL to the best of your knowledge then I'd say it's safe to post your modified version as long as you give the original author his due credit. I'd also state that your attempts to contact him had failed, just in case.
