In the US, how does this major/minor thing tend to work when viewing digital tv?

If you have a channels like 47.1 and 47.3, how do you change to them with a remote? Can you go directly 47.3 somehow, or do you change to channel 47 then do something else to change between minor channels?

Just curious.

We have to assign channel numbers to all channels. I have a channel 58 analog. I also now have 58.1 and 58.2 (maybe even 58.3). In GBPVR I have assigned the digital channels to 158, 159 (and possibly 160). Those are what show up in the web admin. The GBPVR interface shows them all as 58, which is kind of confusing, but due to my numbering, they all fall in order after the analog channels. I have not tried it, but figured that pressing 158 would get me the digital 58.1. Is that what you are asking?

We have it going through our settop box and it adds it to the channel guide...so you can just channel up to it... but if we run it through our tv, the tv remote has a - button to allow you to do 16-1

I was more interested in know how set top boxes, or digital TVs work. Is this what would normally happen on one of these, or were you talking about GB-PVR?

Ah, thats what I wanted to know. I must admit, I find the concept a bit alien.

It probably depends on the TV or STB. I have an RCA box for tuning ATSC OTA. Selecting a particular channel number on the remote takes you to the .1 sub-channel. If you want to go to another sub-channel you gotta use the up or down channel buttons. For example, our local (Phoenix) channel 8 has 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3. Pressing the 8 on the remote takens me to 8.1. To get to 8.2, I have to press the Channel Up button. Makes it a little difficult to program an IR blaster. At least, that's the only way I've found to do it. Nothing in the manual addresses this. So far, everything I've wanted to record off it has been on the .1 sub-channel so it hasn't been a Big Deal.

Ah, thanks for that info. I had wondered if that was the case also.

Yeah, I bet.
