Sub. Thanks for the fixes with the MVP blank screen and connection problems from yesterdays' Patch for 97.07.

The main reason for my upgrade was SQLite, as I thought for sure it would be faster than MSAccess.

However, doing simple things like displaying the guide is 3 to 4 times slower than MSAccess. Also, the Enhanced Web Admin takes forever to display the guide and doing a show search is quite slow.

I am wondering if there is a need for index optimization on the tables?

In my experience, SQLite has been (slightly) faster for every read operation. Its definitely faster for me loading the guide with SQLite than Access. I cant think of any reason you'd be seeing the opposite.

Speed wasnt a factor in adding SQLite support though. As long as a it was as fast as Access I would have been happy. It was added primarily to get around two problems with Access - continually growing MDB file and commits not being immediately flushed to disk.

You might have to talk to UncleJohnsBand about that one.

I'm fairly sure I've added all the required indexes, but you may find some additional ones are required for the text searching performed by the Enhanced Web Admin. If any are identified by yourself and UncleJohnsBand, I'm happy to add them.

I don't know if this is database related , but when using SQLite, i was not able to do LiveTV (TimeShift Mode). The screen would just sit there forever and I could not even use the mouse. I had to power down the computer in order to get it back.

I have no Idea what DB access is used during playback of timeshift mode. I can only think may be something to do with frames or positioning.

The other thing that kind of worked out by itself was the inability to do overlay (menus, guide, closed captions) to my TVOUT on my Nvidia GEForce 6800 using VMR9 Custom Renderer and InterVideo Video Decoder. It started working after I changed back to MSAccess.

If you're able to reproduce the problems with SQLite, then post the logs and I'll take a look. I've not seen any other reports of these sorts of problems.

With SQLite, will we be able to use long descriptions (i.e. >255 characters) in the EPG?

Chris - you need to hang around here more often. Smile

The answer is 'yes and no'. The full description is in the DB with SQLite but there needs to be some changes to a few things. Some descriptions are REALLY long and the standard pop-ups might display more than 255 characters but sometimes still can't show it all.

Cheers,
Brian

Yes, as Brian said, with SQLite it retains the entire description, but depending on the skin you're using any show details popups may not be sized appropriately for large descriptions.
