This happened again to me. Setup a recurring recording from the EPG. But for some reason, epg data for that channel wasn't available the next time the show was screened. So gbpvr didnt record it. Not a big hassle but it was my wife's show and she's pretty upset :-( Says the VCR was more reliable!

Just to confirm. For a regularly scheduled program does gbpvr check the EPG before recording even though the show has been marked as record each week, same time? Is the only way out of this to manually schedule the repeated recording?

I need a way to explain why her show didn't get recorded!

Thanks

You need to find a reliable source of EPG data if you are going to use the EPG. If the show is not in the EPG, GBPVR would assume that the show is not airing, hence not record it. The only way around that, if you know that the EPG data often is faulty, would be to manually record the show. You can there, too, ask gbpvr to record at the same time, every week. Then it will not look in the EPG for that show.
I'm not always right

That's what I suspect is happening. Trouble is this neck of the woods, a feed for the EPG is not that reliable. The trap was, I found the program I wanted to record in the EPG so selected weekly recordings. But the following week the program data for that channel was empty (I hadn't realised this) so when it came to record the show, it didn't :-( Maybe we can ask sub to put in an option to always record a regularly scheduled show if there is no program data at that time. But of course there is a conflict between the EPG and the scheduled recording resolve in favour of the EPG. This gets over the problem when a regularly scheduled show is preempted for a special or something

Sub - what do you think?

What is your neck of the woods? There may well be a user here from the same area with a reliable EPG source.

Dont think so alas. I am in the same neck of the woods as Sub, in New Zealand. We have no real EPG available so we hack it with getting data from web sites. The problem I had was the web site itself had no data for that channel

If you use Zap2it like I do, the subsription has to be renewed every few months, or that problem occurs. And it doesnt tell you this has happened unless you manually update the EPG..

Honestly, if you want GB-PVR to record a show, you need the listings. This isnt going to change.

If you dont find your EPG source reliable enough, you can always schedule a manually reoccurring recording for spec day and time of the week. This does not depend on the EPG.

I'm in the same country, and I've not really any relability problems with the listings. Over the last year, there probably only ever been one or maybe two times that I've had problems with the EPG, but these were both resolved quickly.

Actually I have very few problems with the process of getting the epg. Just one or two channels where the program data is intermittently missing at the source. So I setup a scheduled repeating recording based on the epg and then the next time the program data is missing so no recording takes place. I know gbpvr checks the database for scheduled recordings and then the epg to see if that program is running at that time to make a decision on whether or not to record. It just would be nice if there an option to decided, if there is NO program data at that time (rather than a conflict) and there is a regularly scheduled recording in the database, record at that time and channel. WOuld that be hard to implement?
