For what its worth, I was able to use the VMR7 option on a Windows 2000 machine with Direct X 9.0b, and it gave the transparent on screen display etc.

But yesterday I got the urge to tinker and upgraded to Direct X 9.0c. Now I get the same message about VMR not being supported. I'm going to uninstall Direct X 9.0c tonight and return to b - which was fine anyway Smile

I'm on GBPVR 97.9

This is from a MVP website regarding VMR7 on Win2k:

Q. Tell me more about VMR7. It's the default in XP? You said it's available in w2k?

A. The VMR7 is meant to be compatible with the old video renderer:

*It has the same FriendlyName "Video Renderer" as the old standard video renderer. Its CLSID is different so you can explicitly insert either one into a graph. In GraphEdit, it is the "Video Render" that appears first in the Insert Filters list.
*The SDK docs say that VMR7 is only supported on XP, but it is installed on w2k as of DX 9.0b. Use it on w2k at your own risk.
*Unlike VMR9, VMR7 can support video ports and overlays.

And here is the website url:

Hope that sheds some light on the matter.

Is there a major advantage to running VMR9 over VMR7?
