There were two episodes of a show on today, 6:00-6:30 and 6:30-7:00. I used the TV Guide to setup to record show 1 then show 2.

Since I use pre- and post-show minutes (my PC clock is not that accurate, nor are our local broadcasters very diligent about being on time!Wink, I was not sure what to do about the post-show padding minues of show 1 and pre-show padding minutes of show 2. I ended up setting them both to 0 in the 'record' screen (I chose 'record' rather than 'quick record'Wink.

On the disk, I ended up with two files for the two shows as expected. But the 'break point' was not between shows, which is not surprising given the timing issues.

So what's the best way to record two shows like this? Ideally, I'd prefer to end up with one file with two shows in it but I can't see how to do that from the guide. Of course I can use manual recording, but there are problems with that (separately reported here) not using the pre-, post-show padding minutes.

pre and post padding is only applied if the tuner is not scheduled to be inuse for another task.

In this case the 6:30 post padding on show 1, and the 6:30 pre padding on show 2 would have been ignored.

Ah, that's good to know - pre-, post-padding ignored.  Makes sense.

But since 6:30 according to my PC is not 6:30 in broadcast land, the end of file 1 did not correspond to end of show.  I'm going to merge the two files in my video editor, and then 'cut' them correctly.

Is there a good way to handle this?  It seems pretty common that shows don't start on time.  This is only really an issue when you need to record back to back.  I guess I could manually set the post-show minutes on show 1 to be 33 minutes, and then not setup to record show 2 (from GB-PVR's perspective).

Large padding for back to back recordings isn't going to help you if the programmes are on different channels.

Yes, it is common and I think GB-PVR is pretty much doing the right thing. Its not really caused me any problems. You could set you clock back a minute or so if you find you're consistantly missing the last few critical seconds of a show (but would prefer to miss the first few seconds of the next show).

what if you have two tuners, thinking of getting one, will it use the first tuner for the first show and have post padding and second for second show and have post padding. most shows i find are out by a couple of minutes. so have to watch first part of second show to see end of first show.
if this is not the case can you make it an option in the config
