Hi all

Could someone from the UK share their comskip settings with me please.

The tuning attempts I have made so far have not produced very accurate results so I was looking to see if someone elses settings might provide me with a quick fix. (although I know that settings can't always be reliabliy moved between systems)

btw: I use both analogue and freeview dvb.

cheers

Likewise, some UK freeview settings would be good. I've looked everywhere on the Web and can't find anything.

Ive had very little luck also. I know i will have to create a profile for every channel, and i dont think its worth it given the ease of skipping through yourself.

Jere Jones is still developing 'SchoolHouse' though, which promises to make the process much easier with a UI and video display so you can 'teach' it where the adverts are.

When it will be released is another matter though!

Having said that, if we can get enough people together who record UK Freeview, we could split the channels between us and work on getting .ini setting that work well.

They could be then combined and posted on the WiKi.

apart from digital artifacts causing problems, i cant see any reason why someone in London should need different settings to someone in Birmingham?

That's actually a very good idea stu although I don;t feel very confident about my own abilities to produce reliable ini files (based on my current lack of sucess so far).

Is it not possible that different dvb cards might produce different brightness and volume levels? I don;t know. We would have to record the same show on different devices to compare levels.

If enought peeps wanted to run with this, perhaps a thread should be opned on the comskip forum? In fact, perhaps I should have posted my original post there also but I didn;t see much UK-centric activity.

[edit] btw the "SchoolHouse" project sounds right up my street. If that worked reliably I would definately be happy to pay for it.

thanks for resurrecting this thread guys!

No, they'll all produce exactly the same brightness and volume levels. All this stuff is digital, and received with these as the encoded at the source.

Hi Gents

Just to let you know, I do all my ad trimming and program length editing in VideoRedo. Takes minutes to do and the results are frame accurate if you are careful!

I know this is a manual process, but have not found anything that works as well as this. Only took me about 10 minutes to convert about 6 hours of programming today.

Cheers

Jon

ps: Many thanks sub for a wonderful bit of sw, now running 97.13 with no issues at all! Only the Video card needs sorting out, that up to me!

it's easier just to skip over the ad's that to remove them using an editor!

I use womble when I want to clean a recording prior to burning to dvd (using My videos RC3) or before encoding it to my archive.

Given that some people apparently get such good results with comskip that they can cut their recordings using it's cutpoints, I was trying to see if any other uk dvd users had got comskip working to this level of accuracy (or even close).
