EPG.... Got XMLTV working fine.. but a little confused after reading the manual etc.

The Update EPG button doesn't see to do any thing after its started ( apart from the box that appears... I'm going off network traffic ). I can't under stand how it works with XMLTV with out knowing where the exe is nor the config. So deduction comes to batch files ( which I can create ) but Sub says he does not like nor can I work out how the 'update EPG' function is sposed to be aware of the completetion of the batch file process even if I use the 'postepgupdate.bat'.....

Lastly I've got no idea how I assign images to said channels but I'll probably suss that when I have the above working.

Did any one follow that ?

huh?

Before the automated EPG update occurs in the middle of the night, it will run the UpdateEPG.bat file if it exists. If you want to run an XMLTV grabber in this batch file, you can. The EPG update wont proceed until this batch file completes.

After the automated EPG update occurs, it will run the PostUpdateEPG.bat file if it exists. This gives the user the opportunity to hook in other utilities that may want to install.

When you click the 'Update EPG' button in the config app it doesnt run any batch files, it just processes the EPG as per its configuration. In the case of XMLTV, this involves reading and processing the XML file you have identified as the source of your listings.

Right... so 'Update EPG' is not grabbing it ( unless it starts and finishes XMLTV via the batch ) but its more import into GBPVR ?

Just out of intrest what do you use as you don't use batch files at all ?

It depends on the EPG source you're using. Zap2it, bleb and DVB EPG dont exist as a file based format, so update involves actually getting the info as well. XMLTV is more about files, with the assumption you've already have your listings from somewhere, and they're contained in an XML file.

I'm currently using the DVB EPG.

I have used XMLTV in the past. I just setup a job in the Windows Scheduler to run at particular time so that I knew the file would exist when the automated EPG update ran several hours later.
