Hi Sub,

Could you please expand on what this means from the 0.97.13 change log:

- Changed the way the VMR9 Custom renderer composites elements on the screen. This change was made as a work around for nvidia owners that used to get screen corruption when using hardware accelleration with most aspect ratios. Be sure to select the 'VMR9 Custom' renderer option if you need to use this. VRM7 and VMR9 renderers still have this problem and will require nvidia to fix.

I jumped to the conclusion that you intoduced YUV Mixing Mode on this render to overcome the Nvidia screen corruption problem, but I'm obviously wrong - as per another thread.

Previously the VMR9 Custom renderer was very similar to the regular VMR9 renderer. It would always set the video window to be the same size as the GB-PVR window, then rely on the VMR output rect to deliver frames that had the video positioned appropriately within that frame. For example, when in "LetterBox" mode, the output rect would be set to "0,0.125,1,0.875", and VMR would deliver frames to GB-PVR that had black bars at the top and the bottom and video filling the middle space. The VMR9 custom renderer would then draw that frame to the window (filling it), then alpha blend the OSD frame over the top (if visible).

The VMR output rect implementation is buggy in the nvidia devices, and results in grabage covering most of the screen, so I wanted to find a mechanism that did not use the VMR output rect.

What it does now is always sets the VMR output rect to 0,0,1,1, which is the only rect that seems to work correctly on the nvidia devices. The frame delivered to GB-PVR is all video, no black bars added anywhere. It then calculates where in the window to draw that frame based on what the rect should have been. It draws the frame. Next it mixes the OSD against the whole window (if OSD is visible).

Thanks, I appreciate the explanation.

Cheers

I currently have a geforce for my tv out (nvidia) and I am about to purchase another card for a second computer - is the aforementioned issue enough of a reason to look at an ati card instead?

thanks

This problem does not exist on ATI cards.
