Seems like you're getting a bunch of responses, here's my two cents...

Quote:A bit too hurriedly as it turned out, as I bought the OEM 1042 Model, without the remote, but I justified this to myself by:

1042 is great. I tried the 1045 and played with it's remote, and returned two days later. The 1042 and the separte MCE remote is my favourite combo

Quote:(b) I could add a remote later

You can

Since you have a USB-UIRT already, I would use one of the many Universal remotes that seem to be cluttering most of our homes, and teach the UB-UIRT to respond, and translate it to your STB commands.

You could use your MVP remote, but that would mean carrying it around...

You could use the same remote that actually runs your STB.

You could get an MCR Remote and store the beanbag on the shelf..

Anyway, when you choose your remote, you'll need interface software. Some of the interface can be dealt with natively in GB-PVR. (USB-UIRT and GB-PVR is someone else's area). Or you can use HIP to take your remote inputs and and send them to their destination...

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Thanks for getting back to me with your thoughts and help zehd,

Interesting! I like the 1042 too. btw In what respect is the separate remote different?

Fortunately I don't have that clutterSmile ; actually I am perfectly happy with the MediaMVP remote (believe it or not). Sub suggests (other thread) that the MVP Server instance is conflicting with IR part of the USB-UIRT remote workings. He's fixed it (I hope) i the "next" release.

LOL, what are you the original 90 pound weakling.. Big Grin

Wow, yeah, I guess I could, it even has the red/yellow/greem/blue buttons. Except the layout is different from the MVP remote and tbh, I am a simple fellow, and would like as few remotes as possible!

Yes. This is a strong possibility (and not altogether a bad idea).

It might be a while before I get my head around HIP ...

Cheers,

k.
