I have been in IT for over 20 years. I have heard that sound before.
I strongly recommend you replace the drive as soon as possible.
It is about to die.

They also have 80 GB, 500 GB and 750 GB sizes that I have seen thus far.

They are quite and they have a 5 year waranty.

Just curious: how are you going to put them in your system without her noticing. What if you succeed and afterwards she says: "What happened to the system, it stopped clicking?"Big Grin Big Grin Good luck.

He he - Well they're in - she's not due back until about now (oops - just noticed I'd left the screwdriver out!).

I think I'll go with "You know that forum that you moan about me spending so much time on - they helped me sort out my 'head slap from bad fragmentation'"

Two birds - one stone Wink - just hope I don't get my head slapped!Big Grin (or fragmented)

I know better than to try a stunt like that, my wife knows just enough about technology.... LoL

About the only thing that I have gotten by her lately was the Zalman 7000 al-cu cooler that I put in my GB-PVR rig. She asked why it made less noise than before... and I just told her that I turned the fan down. Big Grin

he he he! I love all these tales of domestic bliss - anything to remind me that I'm not alone with my hardware smuggling and covert forum surfing.....

Be aware that not all SMART parameters have a "fail" threshold (or the threshold is zero, which might not ever be reached, but "failure" occurs before then), but if you read them manually they can indicate that something isn't right.

Lavalys Everest (aka AIDA32) can read SMART.

Everest can't be recommended for this. Everest uses a 08 / 15 reading system and don't interpret the numbers right.
As Example: The meaning of the different numbers @ SMART are completely different if you compare Seagate and Samsung.

I haven't seen any problems with Everest and Hitachi, Maxtor and Fujitsu drives.
